Under what circumstances should one go to a sleep specialist? Are there any non drug cures?


I have always had a hard time sleeping...I go from extremes of insomnia to sleeping so often it is near narcolepsy. I also have chronic nightmares, occasional sleep walking, lots of sleep talking, wake often during the night, and have sleep paralysis about once or twice each month, worse when I'm having a bad nightmare fit or extreme stress. The thing is, its not disrupting my life, but I know it would be nice to actually sleep well. I've dealt with all this my whole life, so i'm not even sure anyone could fix it. Also, I do not want to become dependant on sleep aids or anything...been there, done that V_V

By not disrupting my life, I guess I mean I am accustomed to it and know how to cope...again, I can not remember a time before sleep problems. Its just normal for me...but I would like a chance to make it better!

yes there are non-drug aids, depending on the diagnois.
If i had your symptoms, i would try to get an appt at a sleep clinic, at least for a specialist to do an exam.

OK sometimes I can't sleep because my brain won't switch off and I think too much. I take two Valerian tablets and they really relax me and send me off into a nice deep sleep. They are only herbal so no drugs and they give me the most restful sleep.

Sounds like you should see the doc. Herbal tea Chamomile can help. Valerian root tea also helps
