I have an idea for illegals what do you think?

Ok instead of spending millions on a wall or billion in aid to countries overseas why not take Mexico under our wing help them with some stability, help them {the Mexican government} creat jobs, they could do what FDR did during the Great Deppresion with the dams and the National Parks, its not a cure but it will help. I say lets lead this horse to water and see if he'll drink

This is for hadenough I implore that before you open your mouth next time you crack open a history book and read about Japan and Germany 1945-Present we rebuilt those countries so yes I have looked at history in fact I am a history major it's what I do. Come on people since when is the easy answer the right one all I am trying to do is get us to think and solve our problems together. I plan to use the best answer in a letter to my congressman. Thats called Civil Participation

finally a guy who is thinking. although i don't know how cooperative the Mexican govt. would be, this would be one more step to better our world. the thing is, if you have ever been to Mexico and have gotten in trouble with the law, you know the cops LOVE taking bribes, so i don't know how well we'd be able to offer our assistance without taking advantage of us. you have a good heart for thinking that.

Do they even want our help? If so, then that might work.

I like it! Instead of locking them out, give them a reason to stay home! And instead of handouts (charity), help them to develop resources so they don't need it! I'm all for temporary assistance to get your feet under you, but not a permanent wheelchair so you never have to walk!

Besides, the way the economy is going in the USA, we may be wading south one of these days!

After the way they called us names, disrespected our flag, disrespected our laws, abused our federally funded programs, I wouldn't give them one red cent! They can all go f--k themselves for all I care!! Just LEAVE the USA!!

EDIT: The USA government might help by giving THEIR government instructions on how to make their country more self-sufficient. They could start by encouraging their wealthy to help start charitable organizations to teach their poor how to manage in THAT country. Their rich could help give the poor the right tools to get them in better positions to prosper. They could ENCOURAGE their people to come back to Mexico and take part in building that country instead of sponging off the USA and sending their money from the USA into Mexico (which takes revenue OUT of OUR economy). They need mentoring. The USA could be their mentor but not their bread 'n' butter.

Dumb idea. The Mexican government will want no parts of it. There are still many rich people in Mexico prospering over the cheap labor force.

We are already supporting Mexico.

We are not the parents of every country in the world. If they have a problem, let them handle it. We can't take care of Iraq, Iran, and North Korea and worry about Mexico's government. We have our own problems, and we don't need another country to worry about. It would be easier to build a wall.

The Mexican government is actually passing out manuals telling their own people how to cross the border! Do you honestly think they want illegal immigration stopped?! The money that illegals make here and send back to Mexico is roughly 29% of that country's economy. If they were to stop the immigration, they would be biting the hand that feeds them.

No I wouldn't go for that. We just need to get these criminals out now, once and for all.

I like solutions better than more problems. Some of those answers have literally made me sick to my stomach. Whats sad is that these are the same people you work with and allow your children to play with there children. I am so disappointed in these people. They say speak English but how do they forget their forefathers who came to the country via Ellis Island did not have English as their first language? I think these are the lost people who have no roots of origin...oh wait they do....the TRASH....anyone with culture and heritage would read up on immigration over the decades. Some people have grandparents and parents who don't speak English at all but I guess their different right? Yeah different kind of immigrant.

Heck man ... Mexico is a RICH country!! They have more seriously rich people than you can imagine ... no middleclass ... and seriously poor people ... what does that tell you? They could create their own jobs if the wanted to ... but it's cheaper to export surplus labor to America ... they get rid of their people, their people send billions home ... and Mexico doesn't have to dip into their own coffers .... Mexico would of course take any "help" America would give ... do sweet F.A. for their people ... and laugh all the way to the bank ....

Good idea. Why don't we also allow a pre-specified amount of them to join the military and go to Iraq? If they stay in the military for say...10yrs, then they can have citizenship. That way they've actually earned it instead for saying they're entitled to it for breaking the law and coming here.

However, I agree the wall is not a deterrent. Calderon, the new president of Mexico, is the key. Calderon said on Friday he would continue President Vicente Fox's drive to ease immigration restrictions for millions of Mexicans living illegally in the United States, and chided Washington for some of its border enforcement efforts.

Calderon's answer to Bush's National Guard troops at the border alongside the Border Patrol (Minute Men don't count) was, "One kilometer of road in Zacatecas or Michoacan is worth more than 10 kilometers of wall in Texas or Arizona to stop immigration."

While Harvard educated Calderon has said he will not bow to Washington, at the very least, your idea is a road to resolve, since Bush facing division in his own Republican Party over immigration reform, continues pressing Congress for a broad overhaul coupling tighter border controls with a guest-worker program and a path to citizenship for many of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the USA.

Ultimately, we are a long way from a win. This election year will be politically charged. I am standing by looking for their cures. I could support your idea.

I don't think Americans have to make up their minds. Other countries do. Quit hating us but taking our money, it reeks of hypocricy (Like when Iran complained when we sent over aid after an earthquake. We sent more money because THEY said WE were being stingy. How can we let them get away with that?!?)

That is an idea, but the cost like you said would be in the millions. If your asking me if spending a lot of money for this is worth it then id say sure. The mexican governemnt does need help especially with helping to stablize their country. With our help, over time they may or may not get better. But overall I think your idea has merit but a vast majority of the american populace would probably say heck no.

I hate to sy this, but the US has done quite a bit of damage here. American companiescome here and, cue to les stringent ecological regulation and enforcement, procede to contaminate at alarming rates.

The USA has damned up the rivers that flowed into Mexico and has been playing rober baron/land baron for over a century. We mad it illegal for someone to buy the upstream land, and cut it off to force the other owner into submission, but as a nation, we did it to our neighbor!

We, the USA, have created expanding dessert land on this continent due to it. now that the dams are built and the flow is more or less constant, we should let it flow aned make both sides happy there. THAT would be a HUGE help!!!

That would help the horse drink, literally. Crops culd grow and prices would come down as Mexico could self sustain more. les dependence on imports and they would need more labor so less would have to feel that illegal US work is the correct option (you know I am against illegals and anything that curbs that is A-OK by me!).
