I have chosen?

Depression is calling
so subtle it's knock
The spiral dance begins
the door opens slow

Pills, have tried a few
senses never woke
Alcohol always there
hangovers cure what

I have battled many foes
vanquished most some won
But this darkening cloud
my body so sore

My path is chosen now
take away your aid
Speak not of new days how
I seek Mother's hand

This is about end of life and decisions, one of which my father, wheel chair bound, medical problems, etc., has made at the age of 86 by refusing to eat and take his medications in spite of pleas. I can't judge him but I do respect his decision and will honor his wish. So trolls, if you think this does not belong again, so be it. You I can judge!

I think it's a beautiful poem. Written as though by your father, this is an explanation of the last dance there is in life and choices made.
Old warriors, take their own courage in hand, and make the call. Thank God, you have the equal courage of respect.

Blessings as you proceed, Neonman. Thanks for sharing.

Ah......they did delete the original. I still think this speaks from the heart.

i like it.

I liked it. A lot of well written and interesting lines.

I also found some of the lines a bit jumbled. Most have one thing going on. But then you have some like "vanquished most some won" which is two very different things put together. Maybe punctuation could help guide the reader?

"Hangovers cure what" was another strange one.

And "speak not of new days how." These changes in syntax kind of throw me. Unless it's supposed to read a pit like a puzzle.

Well done, good to see this work up again, restored. I kneel....

The door opens slow, my path chosen now, I seek Mother's hand......do you want me to cry?

Beautiful, just beautiful! One of the most poignant poems I've ever read....and I've read a lot.

The end is only the beginning of a new adventure, with his wife's hand in his, finally. Beautiful!

Very touching. Speaks of inner truths held by many of us in our last days. We want to be able to make choices...our choices. A struggle for independance right to the end.

I enjoyed it very much Well written

I like it.
Nice work:)

Your poem has indeed touched my heart...and my aching teeth too! =)

We should all have the right to choose when to arrive at the terminus. The poem itself is beautifully done and very touching. The imagery is magnificent. I've been reading some of your other work and admire it very much.

Good stuff, I get censored often and it ticks me off. I wrote one about the awkwardness of taking a dump at work that someone didn't like. I think these poems should always remain as a historical recorrd.

Re: your dad...the man sounds great. it's a sad topic, but it sounds like a quality of life issue and that he has chosen the natural path of death. All I can say is when I get to that point I plan on telling my dad he's the best father a man could ever hope for.
