How do I write an argumentative essay? Seems like I am always beating around the bush...?

Argumentative essays seem so difficult to me... I have tried writing them many times but I still fail miserably in my content. I sucks at elaborating my points. For example,"Is food aid the best solution for hunger?". I have only two viewpoints. Yes, food is important because it can cure hunger quickly. No, education is more important... and I start giving examples and reasons. Is that it? Is it what argument is all about? Can I have few diiferent stands? I can write those for just 12 lines and put down my pen. Seems so difficult for me to express my views....

Writing a Persuasive Essay

In a persuasive essay you are going to try to convince the reader that your point of view is best. To accomplish this, you must chose a topic which is clear and to the point and one which has more than one side that can be debated. It is important that you understand the other sides of the position so that you can give strong reasons why your way is best. In your essay, you will only present one side.

You need to have a deffinate view. Write both sides of the argument, my technique is to write all the yes views first and then the "no" views but you could write a "yes" paragraph and then a "no" paragraph if you find this easier.

Your introductory paragraph should explain the question and state your view, your paragraphs should all end with how much it supports your view, if at all, and your conclusion should once again end with your view and briefly include the best arguments in favour of it.

what you want to do is incorporate the other view point in your essay. you don't want to inundate your paper with the other view point, just enough disprove the other view point with FACTS that you have from sources.

What you are doing with an argumentative essay, is justifying that your point of view is correct, and stating why, with facts. Showing the other side of the argument and disproving it makes an argumentative paper stronger.

Don't get too hung up on constantly disproving the other side of the argument, just give your facts that you have, again FROM YOUR SOURCES.
