Why does god let people die long, horrible, miserable deaths?

I'm pretty sure lots of people who have gotten AIDS and Cancer have prayed relentlessly to be cured of their ailment, but of course god never helps them. Why?

If god is forgiving, wouldn't he say, "alright, I shall lift the burden of this disease from you. Now go in peace my child."

But no, he just lets people slowly rot away. If god's gonna kill us, at least he could make it quick. What's with the long, drawn out suffering? Is god a miserable tyrant?

artsymamsita - You say it has more to do with the world than god, but god made the world, right? So.....what? Sounds like anything that happens on the creators' creation is his business, as well as his fault/doing.

the disease preys harder than the person prays.

why does God let sinners experience any happiness at all?

God is a very forgiving God, However we make our own choices, and have to live and die bu them.

Well, you can believe any reason that you want to. It doesnt have to be the right answer, but no-one knows the true answer!

Maybe they have been given a gift. For example, instead of being hit by a bus and not having a chance to say goodbye, they have the chance to get their affairs in order, tell everyone how they feel about them.

Who are we to judge?

Peace be with you.

your path was chosen by your higher self before you entered this body. you decided who and what surrounds you in your life. some souls just want to live long enough to suffocate with the umbilical cord and die....& some souls choose to live till they're 100 years old. if that is your souls decision ...then so be it.

I only know of three people who made it off the Earth alive. *News Flash* Life is terminal and sexually transmitted.
We learn great things through pain. Frankly I believe we need a lot more of it. Pain is a very direct way to correct our perspective when it is all perverted and spoiled.

i personally dont know if gods real no ones does .. but i do beleive everything happens for a reason evens if that reason is unclear

because if there was no suffering there'd be no compassion

suffering in the life we live in now is a gift from god. its like a free ticket to heaven. we are put on earth as a test to worship god. and those whose life is altered by disease suffer enough in the present life and rest in the hear after.

satan made the challange that we can rule by our selves!!!The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.鈥?聽John 5:19.

Why is there so much wickedness and suffering? One reason is that mankind in general has rejected God as Ruler, not wanting to submit to his righteous laws and principles. Thus, humans have unwittingly submitted to God鈥檚 Adversary, Satan. Knowledge of this fact makes it easier to understand why bad situations exist. Satan is evil, hateful, deceptive, and cruel. So we should expect the world to reflect the personality of its ruler. No wonder there is so much wickedness! Human imperfection is another reason for the suffering we experience. Sinful humans tend to struggle for dominance, and that often results in wars, oppression, and suffering. Ecclesiastes 8:9 aptly says: 鈥淢an has dominated man to his injury.鈥?A further reason for suffering is 鈥渢ime and unforeseen occurrence.鈥?(Eccl. 9:11) People often experience calamity because they are in the wrong place at the wrong time. w07 1/15 1:6, 7

God doesn't do that, it is the devil, and god can't prevent everything the devil does.

Because god doesn't exist. Cancer does. AIDS does. God? No.

EDIT: (in response to the above)

Oh really? I thought god was all-powerful.

No, God is love, God lets suffering happen because suffering brings grace, and brings us closer to him. If life was all happiness, we would hate happiness and want tragedy.

We hung the One who designed us on a cross, and he let us so he could save us from ourselves.

God did not create the evil that is in the world, It is an invention of man, because man denied God and has tried to make himself a god.

God doesn't care about suffering, God cares about being worshiped. Dead people don't pray. As long as sick people are alive they pray to him and worship him.

With all the suffering, physical deformities, diseases in the world, don't you get the feeling something is not right here.
How could an all powerful god take credit for the good things and say, well god's will created the bad? There is a fox in the hen house, I'd say.

I would assume that death and pestilence has more to do with the world, and less to do with god. Sometimes things happen. The world is not a perfect place. We have to accept that. The real test is this...how do we live our lives before during and after all that stuff hits. I'm not deeply religious, but I am deeply spiritual. Read the book of JOB. Lots of crappy things happen to him and he holds on to his faith. It's all about faith.

People who were dying of diseases who prayed to God to get healed got one of three answers to their prayers: yes, no or wait. God said no to the healing, because it was not in His will. His will was to have them go home with Him. God knows what He is doing. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." -Jeremiah 29:11
Trust God, and may He bless you!

God gave us free will.

WE have the power to interact, to develop, to choose, to intervene.

Why do people expect a burning bush? His greatest gift to us was Free Will.

We have the power to make suffering go away. Billions of dollars are going to the war effort. What if that same money was going to AIDS research or cancer research? Billions of dollars went to fix the Y2K bug. What if that went to alternative sources of fuel? What if it went to feeding the hungry?

The number one cause of death in people over 65 is heart disease. This is a PREVENTABLE disease.
The number one cause of death in 15-20 year olds is motor vehicle accident. PREVENTABLE.
The number one ause of death in pregnant people is murder. ABSOLUTELY PREVENTABLE.

"According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the top three leading causes of death in 2000 were heart disease, cancer and stroke. The top three actual causes of death -- the activities leading to these causes -- were tobacco use, poor diet with physical inactivity and alcohol consumption."

We have been given the power to save ourselves. Stop waiting for the burning bush and the find the power within.

None of us is immune to the consequences of actions-ours or others'. The person who develops a disease that is not traceable to his specific personal behavior and the infant born with a congenital birth defect both suffer, though not necessarily because of anything they did.

Those who are injured or killed in accidents or natural disasters are often innocent victims, too. Not all suffering is the result of personal disobedience or irresponsible behavior by the one who suffers. Even in the Ten Commandments God reminds us that the consequences of wrong actions can affect one's descendants for several generations (Exodus 20:5).

Often the specific cause of instances of suffering simply cannot be precisely explained-at least not in this lifetime. Sometimes the best we can do is to accept it as explainable only by what the Bible calls "time and chance" (Ecclesiastes 9:11). Although God does not cause accidents, neither does He micromanage the lives of every human being to prevent them. Paul tells us that in this life we see through "a glass darkly" (1 Corinthians 13:12, KJV). We will never fully understand some things during this life, but we will in the world to come.

We should realize that even suffering that is a result of time and chance is not causeless. If it cannot be connected to a specific behavior, it is often nevertheless a consequence of one or more behavioral patterns followed by the human race since creation.

Adam chose, by sinning, to turn away from God. The rest of mankind has taken the same path. "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, ... death spread to all men, because all sinned" (Romans 5:12).

One of the consequences of humanity's decision to live contrary to God's instruction is a world subject to the capriciousness and vagaries of "time and chance" and the actions of others. This pattern will prevail until Christ returns to establish God's Kingdom on earth. The entire world will then be filled with the knowledge of God and His righteous laws (Isaiah 11:9). All of humanity finally will thrive in a world that is just and fair......So, the answer is that God is working out His plan in dealing with humanity over a 7,000-year period. For the first 6,000 years, God is allowing humanity to experiment with various forms of religion, education, government and culture. Through spiritual emptiness and physical and emotional agony, humanity is now writing the lesson in human suffering that man鈥檚 ways always turn out to be wrong. Having learned this lesson, humanity will be far more ready to listen genuinely when God does open their minds and hearts to His Truth.

Because there is not a god outside of the minds of humans that choose to believe in it.

No, God is not a miserable tyrant because there is no god.
