Why can multinational Drug comanies stop the distribution of Generic drugs?

-they stop the sale of low priced generics to Africa by Governments to stop Aids and raise the price of Medical response by the high costs- why cannot we find a cure for cancer instead of costy shotgun Chemotherapy

Drug companies, like any most other companies, have the ability
to control WHO they are going to do business. In most cases, since they
have guarenteed income in the USA for, say, HIV medicine, they would
rather take the profit here than take a loss distributing it in Africa.

And no drug company except the actual manufacturer of the generic
drug wants generics to exist - consequently, they lobby heavily to
protect their intellectual property rights. Even if it kills people.

We simply do not have the ability to force drug companies to operate
at a loss without doing something like saying "For every X you sell here,
you must sell Y there, even if it is at a loss."

That would put a kink in their hose, but remember WE cannot afford
to have them stop producing and distributing drugs here. That is, it
may kink their hose, but it kinds ours too.

There is little incentive to the drug companies to find be-all cures to anything
(cancer, etc.) because it stops recurring revenue. That is, chemo patients
needs lots of chemo over time - one pill would be to cheap to manufacture
and wouldn't give them enough profit.

The "one shot" phenomenon can be pretty easily seen now with Lasek
surgery. In some places, it is as cheap as getting 3 pairs of glasses.
Needless to say, insurance companies would prefer to pay for your
glasses than to pay for your Lasek: Costs less to them in the short run
and keeps the vision-correctional industries going.

Its a business. It is a very powerful lobby. Its profit motive is almost
directly opposed to the best interests of the people.

The usual argument is that "If they didn't make money, they wouldn't do
the research."

A: Not true in other countries
B: That's what government funded research is all about
C: Car companies were claiming they would go out of business if they
had to sell cars with seatbelts.

Ultimately, only if the government has the power to directly negotiate
with the drug companies so they play more ethically. Amongst other
things, that will require socialized medicine in the US.

Please review patent law. That is what is the driving force to keep this process going.
Your next question shows that you are not familiar with cancer and how many causes there are and how many different cancers there are. The causes and treatments are different. There is work progressing in this area and you are not being told about it.

Problem number 1: Generics most often have licence agreements with the brand names. The patents are renewed due to so called improvements in the original drug. So the generics still cannot use the old patents because there has been an improvement that ties it up for another patent period. This can go on indefinitely in some cases. There are some companies that work for drug companies just figuring out ways to extent the patents before they run out.

Problem No 2 The distributors of drugs in third world countries often distribute look alikes that do nothing at all.

Problem No 3 The distributors of the drugs in third world countries want to make as much profit as the next guy. So who can pay the most. Why its the US of course so they discount them and sell them back to the US at high profits.

The only solution is long term and it requires that governments provide free university education in areas where specialists of any group are required by the nation. This is a twenty year answer to getting results but it is the only way. The majority of universities outside the US have subsidized university but it is not enough to be only 1/4 the cost of US universities they have to free like Germany or France and very little cost in Canada.

This answer is much to simple, the interrelated international problems are almost overwhelming.
