Has anyone with a hearing loss due to otosclerosis used a hearing aid? Is it helping? Can surgery be avoided?

Otosclerosis is a process of conductive hearing loss for which surgery is the only cure. However the progress of loss can be stabilised by using hearing aids.

It can in some cases. it depends on the state in which the disease is in. there are some simple exercises with medication that can have positive effects. but im sorry to tell you that yes hearing loss is immanent.

My daughter doesn't have otosclerosis but she does have a maximum conductive hearing loss from other causes which from the hearing loss perspective would act very much like otosclerosis (i.e. 55 dB conductive hearing loss). She is a very successful hearing aid user for the last eleven years, curretly using Oticon Syncro hearing aids. The Syncros are SO good, she is learning Mandarin, which she got an A in this year -- proud mom moment ! So yes, it is possible to wear hearing aids quite successfully with a significant conductive hearing loss.
