Nixon's offenses primarily boiled down to abuse of his Executive Powers within the Executive Branch. Bush has abused his Executive Powers (claim Executive Privilege to Congress requests for information) AND he has used the Executive Branch to circumvent (wiretaps) and defy (Libby) the Judicial Branch. Bush has used the Patriot Act to bypass Senate review for newly appointed State Prosecutors (to replace ones that were fired in mid-term), thus disregarding both the Judicial and Legislative Branches. I'm just too ticked to write more but yes, I agree that his legacy is one of bypassing Nixon.

I know you Libs would love to make some correlation between the Libby trial and Nixon, but it just doesn't fly among people who really understand history.

I don't know if "Scooter" lied on purpose or just didn't remember (as he said), but since the federal prosecutor ALREADY KNEW who leaked Pflame's identity, i.e., Armitage, his continuing with the case was obviously a fishing expedition to see who he could catch within the administration, rather than some attempt at pursuing justic..hence, it was a process crime at best.

The fact that Bush knows he will get such partisan criticism as yours, actually speaks volumes to his character that he still stands up for what is right...and commuting Libby's sentence is the right thing to do.

Political cronyism like this has been around for as long as we've had presidents. They all do it.

Let's see, Richard Armitage revealed that Valerie Plame worked for the CIA (which most of Washington already knew and her husband proudly boasted about in Who's Who). What punishment did he get? (Crickets.)

The prosecutor KNEW that he was the source from DAY ONE of the prosecution. So what was the reaction to the MILLIONS of taxpayer dollars he wasted on a fishing expedition to try and "nail" Rove or Cheney? (Crickets.)

And Libby's only crime was that he was confused who told him what and when they told him. And for THAT he should go to jail, throw away the key?

I guess you support Clinton going to jail for lying under oath too, huh? Oh wait, that was okay, it was about sex. Funny how the rule of law changes with the wind direction for extremists on the left.

This right to pardon is a remnant of feudal times and not worthy of a vibrant democracy like ours. Clinton did the same nonsense, Bush shouldn't do so and should prove that he really wants a real democracy. We have to maintain a strict seperation of powers, a strict seperation of executive and judiciary. Montesquieu is crying tonight and America is crying with him. This is the end of the innocence.
