A question for Cindy Crawford and anyone else who cares to answer about cancer:?

Why don't we spend billions on research to find cures for cancer, AIDS and all other diseases instead of wasting all this money on a phony and destructive war in Iraq?

I will not respond to your comment about the war, but I will tell you this . . . there is no money to be made in curing diseases; the money comes from the treatments. The pharmaceutical companies are in business to make money. Besides, it's called practicing medicine because there are still people alive to practice on.

I wonder the same thing I don't understand it either even if the money was not spent on cures how about the homeless and people who need the help in our country?

I agree. My aunt found out she had breast cancer this summer. It is very horrible to see her battle it. She is doing well and she doesn't even need to do chemo. It really makes you view life differently.. you never know what's going to happen tomorrow.I hope someday that we do find a cure..

This is a complex question. The short answer may be that people in positions of power have little interest in giving up those positions, whether they profit by war or the suffering & death of their fellow human beings.

Some say that there are ALREADY ARE cures for cancer, that are not making anyone wealthy and so are not being publicized, because they put no money in hands of the pharmaceutical companies. If you really want more answers, you may check out the archives of Project Censored [projectcensored.org, I believe] to find (among other disturbing things) that executives in the mammogram industry, for example, have also been on the board of the American Cancer Society.

Think of all the money spent on diagnosing, treating, & drugging cancer patients; an entire industry (a wealthy & powerful one, at that) would be threatened if an unpatented, inexpensive treatment became available & common place.

You may also want to check out such books as "Natural Cures They Don't Want You to Know About" by Kevin Trudeau.

Finally, I was cured of a couple of chronic illnesses by a Chinese doctor who was an herbalist & acupuncturist; illnesses western medicine could not relieve me of.

News flash, sweetcheeks...We DO spend billiions on research for the diseases you mentioned, and many more. I know your next question will then be, why don't we spend more? But I might ask back, why is it the government's responsiblity to fund all medical research? It isn't. Commercial companies do research and in turn put their findings into medications and treatments that gain them money. It's called capitalism...and it works pretty darn well.

But I know people like you will never be satisfied, especially if you can tie it to the war on terror. But you know what, if you are dead from a terrorist bomb, it won't really matter if you have cancer, will it. You can deny the realities of life, if you want to, but some people actually walk around with their heads out of the sand and really understand what is going on in the world. Give it a try occasionally. You might be amazed at what you learn.

We DO spend quite a bit of money on research in the U.S., but what has this got to do with the war? Cancer is just a part of life that people need to accept. It is an INDICATOR of a body in distress OR an area/region that has an unhealthy atmosphere & needs cleaning up. Sometimes cancer is genetic & other times it is caused by outside sources & toxic waste. One thing is certain.....death is becoming an unacceptable word in our society & people are living longer lives. I fear the human race is trading a natural life for a longer life & they don't care what they have to do to get it. It is the natural order of things to have life wiped out by sickness & plagues. Why is modern man fighting this? At what cost to the QUALITY of life do we seek our CURES? Why can't we just accept death on deaths terms & help the people who are not ready to face reality. We all die someday. period.

You've asked a valid question. As long as there is a profit in cancer there will probably never be a cure. There's no profit in a cure for the drug companies and as long as man is on this earth we'll have war.
