Yeast or fungus infection?

i have a cocker and she gets a yeast or fungus infection in her ears all the time--no matter how close i keep the hair trimmed around the ears, it always comes back--are there any home remedies out there to try---the smell she gives off with this infection is horrific and i am tired of going to the vet once a month to get the medicine {which is not cheap} if you have a home cure or aid please, please tell me, i am at my wits end!

Yeast is fungus, so same thing. It's good that you're trying to keep them clean and trimmed, but it's just not enough. She's going to need medication from the vet...nothing else will work. When they keep coming back, it's usually due to allergies. I'm dealing w/the same thing w/one of my dogs. He had the allergy test, so I know exactly what's bothering him now. It's actually cheaper too (in the long run), because now I'm going after the problem and not just the symptom. I highly recommend the test...highly.

Btw, a vet tech friend recommended Ketoconazole (an oral antifungal), to treat yeast from the inside out. Maybe you could ask your vet about it? My vet agreed, so he's on it...still a few more days to go.

Has your vet packed her ears? That worked like a charm for my dog. Ii do not know why they did not do that for a first course of treatment, she had chronic ear infections until then.

Personally, I use 50/50 water and apple cider vinegar.
Mind you, especially cockers are prone to some nasty complications though.
Stay in touch with your vet and perhaps get a second opinion.

A popular home remedy for ear care is a combination of equal parts of vinegar and rubbing alcohol. Don鈥檛 use this if your dog has open sores in its ears, as it will cause burning. Also, never use hydrogen peroxide to clean its ears. The foaming action can cause ear damage.
