Why do plans and orginizations and etc have to pay for their work, when it goes for hte better fo the world?

I understand the government can't just print out more money, because the value of hte dollar will be decreased, but if someone or a plan or an organization is striving for the better good of the world, such as finding a cure for AIDS, technology to deal with the hole in the oozone layer, more eco friendly equipment....why can't countries just make some sort of agreement that things like these can be "funded" for free?

Sorry if this is a "stupid" question, and there's an obvious answer, but I'm not one whose up to date with the governments and politics and etc

If you fund the program for free then how do you pay for the materials its uses and the salaries of the people involved?

In a free market society everything has to be paid for and the people doing the work have to be paid a salary or they will go off and do something else. Charities are partial exceptions, because some people work for free for them; but the people who run the charity are usually paid a salary so they can pay for their food, their rent, and their other bills.

Nobility is nice, but not practical; it doesn鈥檛 pay. Nations do organize to do charitable work through organizations like the United Way and the World Health Organization. The WHO is directly involved in AIDS research. The United Way is an umbrella charity that covers everything from the boy scouts to the Parents Teacher鈥檚 Association.

My Drill Sergeant in the US Army said; 鈥淭he only stupid question is the one that is never asked.鈥? Yes, some simple questions and ones that sound pretty fundamental and stupid are asked here; but I always approach a question like the person who asks it is serious (even if that is not always true).

Case in point the woman who asked 鈥渉ow do you have sex鈥?was serious, but the man who asked 鈥渨ould it be bad to drink the water from my water bed.鈥?Was not and he was surprised by the number of serious responses he got.

Your question may sound fundamental and basic, but often the most difficult and important ones are; like where did we come from, why are we here, and where are we going. Questions that I can barely come to grip with myself; yours is a simple one about economics.
