Hi, do you think this is weird..? (reposting for more opinions)?

When I think about my future career and life, I imagine myself in the scientific field. I love studying biology, but I choose not to work on living people, merely because I do not want to help people with their problems. I think the US government is a scam, and can really help people with the diseases they have. ( I dont want to digress, but cmon, how have they not found a cure for AIDS??? And I think it is setup that when people have an illness or disease and they are finally cured with all this expensive medication, that they suddenly get another disease that will have to be treated with different, but nonetheless, medication.. which equals money for the government..) I want to go into the field of pathology, working on dead bodies. I'm not sure if I can handle it, because when I see a dead body, it creeps me out, but I don't mind needles and blood too much. But the life I imagine myself living is working on these bodies, but no children or husband is in the picture. Maybe a cat..

This is totally and utterly 100% normal so dont worry about that lol, there is a simple and underlying fact that you want to help people in curing diseses but dont want to directly treat the disese. This is the attitude of a brilliant reasearch scientists as long as you know your stuff which if u love studying biology im sure you do. the field of pathology does not focus mainly on the dead bodies but also covers heamopathogogy where you reasearch blood born diseases. as for the US government i cant really comment as im from the UK but atm the Uk government basically works for the US but i dont want to send this into a political argument so ill stop there. im going on to study medicine and do not see myself with a wife n kids so dont worry about tht either, hope this helps. Are you questioning if you are weird because you want to work with the deceased? That's not weird at all. Everyone has different goals and dreams. We need pathologists. We need morticians. There are not a lot of people that would do those jobs. If you can, more power to you. No, I don't think you are weird.

I guess the people who dissed you don't watch TV. Look at all the pathologists and medical examiners. Ducky on NCIS, the ME's on the CSI shows, Jordan on Crossing Jordan. And there's probably lots more - oh yes, the pathologists on DaVinci's Inquest. Of course you will be mortified initially by the dead bodies. You'll have to become acclimated. Maybe start by going to funeral parlors and viewing deceaseds that have passed away, but are already all fixed up. From there maybe visit a morgue. Or look into some DVD's on pathology and watch autopsies first on TV. After awhile it will all be old hat to you, and you'll be concentrating more on what the body can tell you ie. stomach contents: last time ate, what he ate, was it poisonous. Sometimes can even tell where he ate. So it's just a progression to go through to get accustomed to viewing the bodies, then getting beyond that. You can do it! Re husband and kids - you have a rough road ahead of you educationally where you'll need to give your total attention to your studies. But after you've gone through college, medical school, internship, and residency, you might find you are then ready for the joys of a husband and children.
