Hi, do you think this is weird...??

When I think about my future career and life, I imagine myself in the scientific field. I love studying biology, but I choose not to work on living people, merely because I do not want to help people with their problems. I think the US government is a scam, and can really help people with the diseases they have. ( I dont want to digress, but cmon, how have they not found a cure for AIDS??? And I think it is setup that when people have an illness or disease and they are finally cured with all this expensive medication, that they suddenly get another disease that will have to be treated with different, but nonetheless, medication.. which equals money for the government..) I want to go into the field of pathology, working on dead bodies. I'm not sure if I can handle it, because when I see a dead body, it creeps me out, but I don't mind needles and blood too much. But the life I imagine myself living is working on these bodies, but no children or husband is in the picture. Maybe a cat..

Sounds like you have a conspiracy theory going. The government gets money through income taxes. It is in the government's best interest to keep people healthy and productive members of society, paying those taxes.

Have you thought about being a Phlebotomist? You don't actually do any test on a person. You just draw blood and other specimens. Your not weird. We all have our interest or jobs would not be filled. I would say work on cadavers but you say a dead body freaks you out so that does not seem to fit. Do what ultimately feels right for you. Good luck~

No, I don't think your future plans are weird at all. I think your on the right path and our society needs more people like you. Dont worry about the dead, because you will get used to it. You will go through years of medical school and will have to work on cadavers in your gross anatomy classes for years. Everyone gets uncomfortable when 1st working on a cadaver, but you will learn to treat it like a scientific object, since you have to learn and pass all of your exams.

I don't know if I agree with your thoughts that the goverment has cures for diseases or AIDS. But, I do know that the pharmaceutical companies are the most powerful people in this country and they will only produce things that are only to there benefit.

I don't think you're weird at all, Heidi. In fact, you sound like a highly intelligent woman with a very promising future. As a student of the sciences myself, I have done much research and some of it has been in microbiology and virology similar to the lines of pathology in which you are studying.

I am concerned, however, with the lack of balance in your life. It appears, and I fear, that you are hiding behind your science to avoid others. If you were sociable with others, but said that you have healthy boundaries with respect to society and your science, I would say that is more normal than saying, "I do not want to help people with their problems," and "the life I imagine myself living is working on these bodies, but no children or husband is in the picture." See, humans are social creatures to one extent or another and you must acknowledge your humanity on some level. That's called balance. But you aren't weird. You are highly intelligent if not eccentric. But so am I...
