Why would you use heat rub instead of freeze spray?

What injuries do the 2 different types of relief cure/aid i dont understand

Cold at the time of injury and for first 24 hours, then heat;

When you have a fresh bruise that is still bleeding under the skin, you would use cold to help stop the bleeding for about 48 hours. THen apply heat to help blood circulation back into the area.

OK. As a general rule, if you've had an injury, you should use cold on it from immediately until about 24 hours, then switch to heat. the cold basically "freezes" the pain and will constrict the blood vessels to prevent swelling, inflammation and possible rending the area, particularly if it is a joint or connective tissue, immobile. Heat is then used to "soothe" the area and spread out the swelling and inflammation.
For internally caused pains (backache, neck ache) applied heat is usually indicated, however some people find relief from cold or the "combination" remedies, such as 'Hot-Ice" cream et al.

As I know it. Deep Heat is for muscular pains, and the freeze spray for burns. thats how we use it here in SA, and we use a lot of freeze because our summers are so hot and people get so sunburnt.? does that help you.

i am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse and I wish people who don't know the first thing about medicine or conditions would just keep quiet. A heat rub contains analgesics to stop pain caused by inflammation. It is rubbed into the affected muscle. A freeze spray is a mild local anaesthetic which also stops pain but only for a short time.The chemicals that a freeze spray contain deaden the surface nerves I You certainly would NOT put a heat rub on a bruise.You would use WITCH HAZEL and only then if the skin is not broken. Heat rubs are used for muscular aches and pains. the best you can use for an inflammed muscle is a cold compress or arnica cream

use the cold to reduce swelling and later heat to promote recovery

Rule of thumb for First Aid:
muscle pains and spasms - apply heat (not necessarily a heat rub like Deep Heat, better to use a hot pad);
joint injuries - apply cold (bag of frozen peas seems favourate with a lot of people), if you put heat onto a joint injury your patient will have an enhanced pain experience (they may not enjoy that);
bruising or minor leakage - apply cold (not a cream) to constrict the blood vessels.

heat when you have mussle strain or such like to help with inflamation etc
