Why do we spend so much money to cure and feed people overseas.?

Millions of American families need help, yet our government spend billions on overseas aid. Our people can't afford health insurance...I fear we're going to have third world problems in the near future .

that is a good question. i totally disagree that we do and think that there should be more organizations that help the people in the united states.

We actually spend very little of our GDP on foreign aid. We spend 0.01% of our entire budget on foreign aid. What's also interesting is that the US government requires that aid monies also be put back in the economy. For example, our wheat should be bought from American farmers or the trucks the govt uses are from Ford.

It's a very common misperception.

Still, there are third world countries out there already. And starting wars isn't the best idea if your afraid of economic problems.
I'm sure there are plenty of charities working inwards for americans as well.

This is a hard question, but we see it as our responsibility to help all of those that we can. Some people REALLY need assistance, and since all men (regardless of Nationality) are equal, we help those who need it the most. "The most" is EXTREMELY subjective.

China already almost bought the U.S.A... we're already sort of a third world country

I don't mind helping others. The thing that I mind is even though we do they still hate us. No appreciation. Just hate spews from most of these people. I wonder why that is.

Considering what the US throws away/ wastes in food a day, could feed the world for a month....gee I guess that it recognizes that it could help others, taking into account that the biggest killer of the world is hunger. How jaded are you

We are all humans and one can't choose where one is born. How selfish to only help your own country. Other countries can't get the water to grow crops. Why don't you give up one luxury such as a maccas or a cinema trip and help your people . America has a lot of obese people. I don't see that in Poor countries.

wow...lotta unrealistic folks here..as for "obese" people, they ARE everywhere, but it seems even though a BUNCH of us are obese, we are the most overfed yet undernourished people in the world. man..read a book or something, gain a lil bit of knowledge..

we already have those problem,were the richest country but yet one of the only one's without socialized medicine,I mean come on canada can do it.The average canadian lives 5 years longer than the average american,We need a good president who actually cares about the people-not war and not oil!

Dear brother/sister, the main problem you see (where u r feeding and curing) made by your country. In africa, mid-east, asia in any places in the world USA has a nagetive role for the missery of people. Same time there are many (most USA people) are good and they have humanitiy. If they don't live in USA world become destroyed. These people are well wisher and for these people USA govt. spend smart amount of money for curing and feeding.

Actually we are one of the richest countries that are on this earth. I really believe that you're right that we need more organizations to help American families but really, those American families have a better chance depending on themselves in America than many of those third world overseas countries have a shot at depending on themselves. If you go to Africa and visit the families , where we send food packs and buy water for and then visit the American families on the streets, it would be quite clear that the American family has some more resources and possible help they could go to than the African family who have a higher possibility of starving to death.

You are correct that families in America need help, but our poor are vastly better off, than others in the world.

I've seen it first hand, been there and know what I'm talking about. I didn't read it in a book, see it in a video, or get it from some proffesser.

I've been poor, grew up poor, and lived in Detroit during the 60's.

Compared to what I've seen in other countries, I wasn't poor, not even close.

These people need help and they should get it.

Millons of american families are able to purchase cheap household items because of cheap slave labor in other countries. American corporations stay competitive because they use children and laborers from other countries at extremely low wages.
America sells weapons to poor countries so their dictators can continue exploiting their people.
We supported the Shah of Iran, after the CIA deposed a democratically elected president.
We supported and maintained a cruel dictator in Nicaragua, Somoza, who became a multimillionaire while the people starved, so we could get cheap bananas.
The CIA killed a democratically elected president in Chile, Salvador Allende, to protect the interests of ITT, an american company.
There has been more money arriving here from other countries than leaving to other countries

You have a good point, but most of the help comes from non profit organizations. There a doctors who volunteer their help. It's a good thing.
But, now we are bringing Iraqis children and their families for much needed surgery. However, I wonder who pays for the long stay to recuprate for over 1,000 children and families. Some of the families want to stay here, but they contend they would miss their families, but don't want their sons or daughters in harms way again. What then?

People hate us for giving, helping, and giving them our missionary message. They want us out of their business taking advantage and plundering their own resources. We are clothing half the third world and before that they were never ashamed. The dilemma is who needs help the most but the truth is who really wants the help. Our nation has great need domestically and only God knows the real answer. President Bush has said God speaks to him. There is something missing I saw a homeless man praying on the street corner the other day maybe it just takes time to get to the top.

Far fewer foreign countries receive US money under the Bush administration. The donations are quite tiny these days, except for Israel, which still receives 60 billion in dollars, weapons, food, etc.

The money has all been redirected toward war profiteering.

Rather than fearing the inevitable, keep speaking up. A strong questioning voice like yours will change America for the better.

I suggest you get out of your little shell and go to India or Africa and see the world. You have no concept of poverty. To you, not having food for a couple of days means someone is poor.

American agricultural businesses make a large profit off of supplying aid products to countries in need. It would be impossible to break the agricultural triangle
