Who is looking for cures?

Just want to know who is looking and why there is no cure for just about everything?
And will they ever find cures....cancer,aids.ect....

They're looking at a cure for Type 2 diabetes by transplanting beta cells from a healthy pancreas to see if they will start producing insulin. I saw one article in the American Journal of Nursing, but I wonder if it was squelched because the pharmaceutical companies would lose money with a cure, or if there was a real problem with doing it. I never saw a follow up.
