Do you have AIDS? |
I watched on CBS News that they are close to curing it within a couple of years. How do you live with it? How did you contract it? When you found out how did you react and cope? It is NOT true that there may be a cure for AIDS in a couple of years. There may be treatments effective to allow a person to live a normal lifespan, but due to the nature of the virus, it changes over time, combines with other versions of itself to create entirely new versions, and has several different sub-types called "A,B,C, D, and E". Because the virus recombines with other sub-types there are now sub-sub types that combine with two-letter names, such as "AB" or "AE" or "DE", etc. The most dangerous is type E, and is the type most prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa. It might take 20 years or more to truly conquer this virus. Until then, the best thing to do is to eliminate the spread of the virus through new infections. Fortunately for me, I do not have this virus, but I still study it as I am interested in the Human T-cell leukemia virus, which is related to it - its in the same family of retroviruses (RNA viruses) as HIV.
