Immigration-Why is Mexico such a horrible place to live?

All during discussion of this immigration issue and rights due to whom, surely, if Mexico was a nice place to live, it is their country - they would be there. There is little to no employment available in Mexico, the economy is dirt poor - availability of services and goods are terribly limited. We are creating an economy in Iran - trying to feed Africa and cure AIDS? Why can we not address the root of the problem here and stop all of this anger?

because america exploits and oppresses the mexican people: there's a little thing called NAFTA (north american free trade agreement) that was used to change the mexican constitution in order to accomodate mexican economic growth. It was supposed to allow trade with mexico, and in turn, create all sorts of jobs and prosperity for the mexican people. But instead, a certain article of the mexican constitution, (article 7? i'm not sure) that garaunteed land distribution to the poor was basically taken out of the constitution in order to allow the largest american corporations to purchase the land from the mexican government- hence basically stealing the land from the people who had been living there for many generations, and depended on the land for their survival.
What exists on these lands, now, are factories for american corporations (there are far less labor laws in mexico, which allows the corporations to benefit from cheap labor in horrible, unhealthy conditions) where many of the mexican people are forced to work.
So, these people are left with a choice: remain in mexico and work for american corporations for little-to-no money in relation to the mexican economy; or come to america and work for little-to-no money in relation to the american economy (which is far more money).
So, if you're mad about mexican people "stealing your jobs" (redneck accent implied)- they're stealing your jobs whether they come here or not.
So i guess my answer to your question is- Mexico is a bad place to live largely because of america and its oppressive foreign policies

POOR COUNTRIES ARE ALWAYS LIKE THAT

Anywhere where you live in poverty, is a horrible place to live in. Mexico is a corrupted society where 60% of its people live in poverty that is virtually unknown in the US, and the government won't do anything about it, on the contrary, they cause it and perpetuate it.

All the wealth of Mexico is concentratred in a few families. They have to let go for the benefit of their people.

Mexico in fact, is pretty place to live. I've been to Guadalajara and they have much nicer houses and big homes than LA. Mexico might be poorer than the US but it's definitely not really really poor. The only problem is that there's too many people to be employed in Mexico so the only other solution for the unemployed is to look for jobs in the US.

Hey you might be onto something. Why don't we spend our countries resources on ALL the poor countries of the world and in doing so become just as poor as them? Maybe then they won't want to come here because it won't be any better here than it is in their own country.

Mexico is poor cus the leaders and all the cops are corrupt. plus people are crooks and drug dealers right near the border. it really scares me . i saw this report on TV where i saw these drug dealers and illegal stuff going on there.

Well, since your a humanitarian, you will be bashed here.....We don't tolerate people such as you. You are weak. A bleeding heart....

I totally agree with you!!!!!!!!! The reason is because of money and oil. We only help those who benefit us! Plain and simple, its all about self interests.....There is no place for a humanitarian in this country, sad to say....

1. We have already spent more than enough educating their poor.

2. It wouldn't work unless we took over their government, which is corrupt and has ingrained disdain for paying for services like universal education (with the result that it is always a 'better life' for their poor to come here and have us pay for it.)

3. We tried, NAFTA being one example. In that particular way, Mexico is like Africa. If you throw money at it, the elite adapt quickly to catch the money themselves, while the uneducated poor benefit little. We can't RUN their government without war. I'd like to pressure them to put universal education in place, though, if possible.

my point exactly, but the United States can't do it for them, any more than we can do it for africa or elsewhere. People gotta do it for THEMSELVES. Give a man a fish, he eats today. Teach him to fish, he eats for a lifetime. Mexico CAN support itself, but won't as long as we make the US easy pickin's for em....

mexico is not a poor country they have enough resources to take care of their own but because of corruption they choose not to and their people will not speak out against them not even from here they love mexico and they will tell you this . i have heard them say them selves shut up unless you have ever been there, and the statement about all their beautiful resorts and how Americans come their legally and spend money etc and our government needs to demand mexico take care of their own people they speak out just fine when it comes to America but have no ill words for their own country that's stupid and in fact in mexico on may 1st they had a protest at the U.S. embassy and they were chanting things like go home Americans we don't want you here as well as we hate Bush and they had a dummy of Bush they were throwing around . we should pull our companies out there! like they were doing so much better without our companies before and nafta is crap! and they are going to make a nafta superhighway paid by us that will employ mexicans

Quietly but systematically, the Bush Administration is advancing the plan to build a huge NAFTA Super Highway, four football-fields-wide, through the heart of the U.S. along Interstate 35, from the Mexican border at Laredo, Tex., to the Canadian border north of Duluth, Minn.

Once complete, the new road will allow containers from the Far East to enter the United States through the Mexican port of Lazaro Cardenas, bypassing the Longshoreman鈥檚 Union in the process. The Mexican trucks, without the involvement of the Teamsters Union, will drive on what will be the nation鈥檚 most modern highway straight into the heart of America. The Mexican trucks will cross border in FAST lanes, checked only electronically by the new 鈥淪ENTRI鈥?system. The first customs stop will be a Mexican customs office in Kansas City, their new Smart Port complex, a facility being built for Mexico at a cost of $3 million to the U.S. taxpayers in Kansas City.

Maybe you need travel, you find a lot American Citizens in Mexico, living lbetter then here, the problem in Mexico is not have WELFARE in Mexico the poor can,t beg to the politicians for WELFARE, here yes you have free money, house and credit, Mexico not, you need see the places and do again you question,And my question is wath companies the regular US people have in another countries? NAME ONE, only one, only corporation have companies, and corporation is a transnationals no AMERICAN companies, read the labels in your food cans, read the brands, find from where is everything and who is the owners, TRANSNATIONALS no regular people, is stupid say we need bring our companies, the companies not make money here in USA, overseas is more reliable then USA, sorry we no have employs because the companies no is here any more, if we no have the cap0acity or the knowledge to do our job, some one from another country maybe have it and we cry again.

It is not a horrible place. They have resources. Some very beautiful country. They have poor just like we do-lots of poor on both sides.
We can't feed and educated the world-it is not possible. We can take care of our own problems-and not burden others. They need to do the same.

...Is it because they're stupid?

...Is it because they act dumb?

...Which of the 2 is better?

...I just asked myself.. and even they can't seem to figure it out.

...Go figure...

I respect mexicans that come to the U.S. for their families! It is a brave and wonderful thing to do for the ones they love! They risk getting caught or dying trying to get here! It is so poor in Mexico, I have been there. My husband is Mexican. Some Families have to live in houses made out of dirt, straw, rock, whatever. There are no high paying jobs. The food is not really safe. If people would have a heart and look at how these poor mexicans live--or if people here had to live like that, then they would not be so quick to down mexicans!

Oh,cry me a river! Mexico is not a poor country! And if the mexican people don't give a **** about their own country enough to stay there and change it,then why the HELL should we?! The U.S. has given mexico billions of dollars,it is not our fault they have a corrupt government, and it is not up to us to support their sorry *** from now on. they need to grow the **** up!

Mexico has had the same amount of time as the United States to improve their country, I mean come on 200 years and their still in the same boat, shouldn't they have had a bigger boat by now. They have tons of natural resources and they do nothing with them, they can't wheel and deal to improve their country, don't they have smart people in Mexico. It is not our fault they are not economically viable.

Unless there is a revolution to dismantle the oligarchy in Mexico, it will stay a crummy place. The rich people there enjoy a serf class--lots of poor "slaves" to work for them.

Let's not let this happen to us. Pay $$$ for the services and products you buy--don't "hire" illegals by patronizing businesses that hire them. Would YOU want to work for ridiculously low wages? Heck no. So don't "hire" people on the cheap by buying at WalMart or wherever you suspect illegals are employed.
