Outrage in South Africa

Last week a 3 year old girl in South Africa was beaten
and raped.
She is still alive. The man responsible was released
on bail yesterday.

He is walking the streets.

The Government is planning to close the child
protection unit which is an essential part
of the justice system for children.

You may have already heard that there's a myth in
South Africa that having sex with a virgin will cure
AIDS.

The younger the virgin, the more potent the cure.
This has led to an epidemic of rapes by infected
males, with the correspondent infection of innocent kids.

Many have died in these cruel rapes.

Recently in Cape Town, a 9-month-old baby was raped by
6 men. Please think about that for a moment.

If this is true, what's wrong with these people? No offense to South Africans, but....................

There are stupid people in every nation. Clearly the SA gov't needs to (a) provide more public education on AIDS, and (b) prosecute and punish offenders more firmly.

I am a south african and yes its true. Its sick and yet when elections come up the masses elect the same government in and the circle continues and this government does nothing about these crimes.

Yes, it happens. but that is the result of a government that denies the existance of AIDS. This is not a common thing though. ANd no we Africans do not condone it. It disgusts us even more. But bad stuff happens in every country. There are sick and evil people in every country. And unlike the USA, we at least do not have one as president.

I am an South African and moved to Portugal. When I moved I did not do so for political reasons but due to the instability, crime rate and things like the above I am not willing to go back. I am not sure if this particular case is true but these things happen for real. Hard to believe we are supposed to be a civilized rainbow nation. I am however glad to see that some people from the outside world are noticing such abominable acts. Visit this forum often and you will open your eyes even more. What does the world expect a government whose minister of health wants to cure aids with garlic and beetroot?

The aids crises is supposed to be the previous government麓s mistake, but when people were told to use condoms they were told it was a scam of the white man to prevent the black population from increasing.

I am so disappointed to see that you have taken a very sad incident to manipulate a mud-slinging debate on South Africa.
Instead of everyone having a say on who is responsible or how things have come to this point, why don't you all stop a minute to THINK about these innocent souls that depend on humanity for protection and their right to live and grow up safely? Children are being abused and murdered in EVERY country, not only in Africa, and that's a fact! In this light, let us rather say: "What is wrong with the human race and what can we do to help the children throughout the world?" Because pointing fingers says a whole lot about ourselves.

Sadly it's all true, i read the article Alf mentioned in his answer it's really a sad and sick indictment of black males in South Africa, somebody in a earlier answer said it was a cultural thing it's not it's just plain criminal and people like that must be terminated.

No one knows why the government is planning to close the child protection unit.There are many emails going around and letters being send to the government to stop this.

To answer your question about the myth....
Yes I have heard about this as well,
many schools and things are being educated and given info about AIDS but many people in SA have never even been to a school.
There are a lot of different cultures in SA that have very strong believes cause that is the way they have been raised for many many years.
Hopefully the government will soon realize the seriousness of the situation and make sure that ALL cultures are educated.

I emailed a petition to as many friends on Monday that asked that we ask for the Child Protection Unit to not be closed. I only read up until that in your posting, as the email brought me to tears and I think I was a bit off it for the rest of the day....
Guys if any of you have recieved the email, please... it wouldnt hurt to send to as many people as you know. Even if you think it wont help, some of us have hope....

No kidding, this is so true, it is difficult to believe. When one person is raped here in Germany, then the papers are full of it, headline news! In SA it doesn麓t reach the papers, coz so many cannot read and writeYET. As long as news is spread by word of mouth, how can things get better? Get them learning to read and write, and print pamphlets and inform the people. Dr Beetroot cannot cure this !!

I had a friend who lived in Cape Town until recently. This is garbage being spread by the government to justify certain actions they take against their citizenry.
