Do you feel insulted when people like Shirley Phelps make extremist comments like "Aids cures fags" and "God hates America" or when they protest funerals- and then claim to be doing it in the name of god?

Yeah, it does. But she's not christian, she's a cult. THe Phelps' Wesboro Baptists are a cult made up of the Phelps family and almost nothing else. No Christian claims them as an example of God's love, but they are a perfect example of the devil's hate.

Frankly, it's my nightly prayer that someone finds a way to legally take care of them. Sue them for all their worth and get those kids to a good psychiatrist and end the brainwashing. They are a very bad example of Christianity.

Yes. And I feel insulted that people do not have the ability to reason with regard to denominational distinctions. Claiming to French doesn't make me French, claiming to be a doctor doesn't make me a doctor, claiming to be 500 years old doesn't make me 500 years old. But I can claim to be a Christian, and on no other evidence but this claim, non-Christians accept it without reservation, and assign all of my attributes to Christianity as a whole. That amazes me, especially when it comes from people who claim to live by reason and logic.

I feel ashamed for God, that He is blasphemed.

Such people are among those mentionned in Matthew 7:22-23

people like that are the reason alot of people do not want anything to do with God.

I personally feel it is wrong to do anything hateful in the name of Christ. Christ taught love and died to free us from condemnation, not to condemn us. Many Christians seem to get caught up in finger pointing and condemning others for their actions, when in reality, they are no better than anyone else. We are all sinners. The only difference is that some of us have accepted the forgiveness and forgive others as we were forgiven. Extremists like the one you mentioned give Christianity a bad name.

No. I feel sorry for her. It's obvious that her brand of whatever -it-is masking as religious faith is sadly at issue with any God I've ever heard of, except maybe Eris, the goddess of discord.

To be able with a straight face to claim that God hates anything but sin is an affront to every believer, whatever their denomination or faith heritage.

How sad for her, to live her life under the cloud of a God who is not a loving Father, but some malevolent, malicious, spider deity spinning webs of hate, death and damnation for his creation. YUCKKKO!

Christianity has always followed the teachings of the Bible and it stands or falls on the Bible, not some human's ideas.

I think they are a bunch of misguided fools who are bearing a false witness of Christ. They will pay for their lack of love.

There are things we view as sinful but that does not mean it is our job to pass judgement on man. We are to love one another and be a light to the world, not a freak show.

They certainly do not exhibit the fruits of the spirit:

I feel very sad. I think they are not true Christians though. Many people play games here on other people's expense.

YES!!! That is using God's name in VAIN! They are breaking the ten commandments!
1. God doesn't want us to be gay, but he doesn't HATE gays. He doesn't give them AIDS. He'd lead them to him a different way.
2. God DOES NOT hate America. We have so much more than other countries and yet we take it all for granted. We should be thankful for the right to vote, and if we disagree with laws, we have chance to change them.
3. I personally believe that death isn't bad because you go to God in Heavean. But a funeral is to mourn the departed man's leaving. God doesn't mind.
