And why is it so hard to find a cure?

In my opinion it was created by a government agency to use as a biological weapon and for population control.

In a side note had the Regan administration not been so completely ignorant they had the chance to screen blood banks but refused. Regan actually refused to say the word AIDS during his administration and said the cost of testing was too much. How sad, millions of people could have been saved and millions more educated at the start of the initial outbreak.

Scientists believe that the first humans were infected through contact with monkeys in the middle years of the 20th century. I can't imagine anyone who has attempted to have sex with a wild monkey. It's hard to imagine that such an attempt would make it past first base, but perhaps that's one way to get scratched or bitten. Sometimes monkeys are eaten as food, and it's perhaps easier to imagine contact with infected blood through a knife cut during preparation. So this is one possible explanation for the origin of HIV/AIDS.

It came from monkeys in Africa. It's so hard to find a cure because it's a virus. No antibiotics cure a virus. All they can do is try to come up with a vaccine to prevent. But they do have drugs to suppress it now, people with HIV can live a long time and have normal lives if they're compliant with their meds and take care of themselves.
