Would it be fair to bring a child into this world with Aids?

if one or both parents had AID's and decided to pass it on to the child, in your opinion would that be like just any other ordinary child or not fair at all?

Bad: the bad i see in it is that the child has to suffer the consequences for the parent's faults, they have to feel sick, they may not have alot of options as others do and it may affect them mentally.

Good: the good i see in it, is that we may never know what kind of medecines and technology may be available in the future, one scientist may find a cure, even though it may be $38873573593853958397 bucks for a few years.

so what is your opinion?

wow alot of good answers already!! thanks!

i dont think its fair to punish the child, as you said. and i also dont think its fair to make them suffer for a cure that MIGHT come along in the future. science isnt something that is easy to find out, and things arent always possible. if you want a child, your best option is probably to adopt. if you really want a child that you feel closer to, ask one of your close friends or even siblings if they will carry the child for you.

Abort it.

The "good" is not there

That's very irresponsible of the parents and should not occur.

Just because a parent has AIDS or is HIV positive, doesn't mean a baby would have to be. If a baby is born by c-section the chances are very slim that the baby would contract the disease. I don't feel that knowing a baby would get it and still getting pregnant is fair as the baby could end up suffering.

It would be horrile to bring a child with aids into the world. They would suffer! I cant see children suffer

rusty coathanger

It's not fair, though if a woman infected with HIV does get pregnant, with the proper care, there's actually a pretty decent chance of not passing it on to her baby. Still, if I were infected with HIV I would be so careful not to get pregnant. There may be a cure one day, and if and when I got cured, THEN I might think about having a baby if I wanted one.

wtf? ive seen kids hate parents for needing braces ...COME ON that is seriously horrible, unfair cruel even.

There is such a thing as HIV safe c-sections now. The risk of passing it on is VERY VERY low.

Baby's do not contract HIV from their mom (or dad) during conception or incubation... they usually catch it during the birth by getting the mom's bodily fluids (namely blood) into it mouth, nose, or eyes.

The HIV safe c-section cauterizes the incision to that there is no blood. It is a long process, but it is very rare for babies born with that method to contract the virus.

u shouldnt get end a life just because of a disease there are drug that can effectively slow it down, the mother can take drug to prevent the child from getting aids( if child is born without aids DO NOT BREAST FEED). the drug can put the ratio up to 77%aid free( i think). and one last reason the more ppl with aids the closer we'll come to finding a cure because there will be someone out there that will be naturally immune to aids and a cure can come from that person.

There are plenty of children who need foster care and adoption and unless one knows the certainty of a child's health, I think that it would be totally selfish and foolish to plan or consider a pregnancy.

If the parents have AIDs it may not pass to the child, but it's not a risk someone should be willing to take. If it does pass on through the child, they will deal with all of the pain and suffering. I hink they will have a hard time finding someone to love and marry. Who wants to get with someone with AIDs? I know I wouldn't. It's very irresponsible and incosiderate of a parent who gives it to their kids. I don't see anything positive about-HIV positive it, maybe!

Babies can be born free of HIV even if the mother has it, due to anti-viral medication and new immune systems. If I had a deadly disease, I would avoid getting pregnant for a couple of reasons. My kids need me and I wouldn't want to condemn a child to a sickly life and painful death without even a mommy. However, my previous attempts at avoiding pregnancy have been unsucessful and I don't know that if a baby resulted and I had AIDS what I would do. Some life and love is surely better than none, right?

If They'd learn to keep their damn legs closed none of this would be a worry

If the child comes out negative for HIV that of course would be a good thing..and the parents will have the child they always wanted.

But...since both parents have HIV they will eventually fall victim to the disease which may leave the child parent-less at a young age or before he/she reaches adulthood.

If they are going to bring a child into the world they need to have a long term plan which should include who would care for the child (even if infected with the virus) in case they die. I suppose thats what God parents are for...but not many ppl would want to take on the responsibility for caring for a child let alone a child infected with such a horrible disease.

I wouldn't be fair to intentionally become pregnant. If a HIV positive woman that is pregnant has a C-Section and medication. They can save a baby from getting HIV from it's mother.

So, the child would at least have a chance at living. However, it would be sad that their mother may die at a younger age.

I really don't think anyone 'DECIDES" to pass on HIV to their child. That is a horrible thing to say.
And how do you know it is the parents' FAULT. They could have contracted it through a blood transfusion.

Here's a true story: My Godmother was married to a man for about 25 years when she got really sick and went to the doc and lo and behold found out, he had infected her. She never even know he was HIV positive.

Nobody DECIDES to get HIV.

Your question is ignorant and completely unsympathetic.
