30 Billion dollars to combat AIDS seems rather silly, doesn't it? Read for more.?

President Bush decided to dedicate 30 billion dollars toward the fight against aids over the course of six years. Isn't it kind of silly to do this when that money could have been spent on research to try and find a cure for Alzheimer's, cancer, or any other non-preventable disease that we don't know the cause of, instead of investing it toward a disease that we ultimately know how to prevent?

Of course, I would expect some of you to find sympathy for people who can't control the action of having sex and shooting up. I mean, humans obviously have no choice in this matter, right?

Those that get it through blood related accidents in the health care field, are raped, and are born with it do garner a lot of sympathy from me. The fact remains, however, that the bulk that have AIDS got it from sexual relations with partners without using protection or finding out if the other person had the disease or not. People know the cause of it, but still put themselves in the position to get it.

We also know several ways to prevent cancer including not smoking.

If your child or loved one was dying of AIDS, I doubt you would find it silly.

I find the money we are spending to fight an unjust war in Iraq even sillier. That money would be much better spent in researching treatments and cures for diseases.


JCWarrior- Please google the words African AIDS epidemic. I really doubt those infants and children are having pre-marital sex.

Edit- The number one cause of lung cancer is smoking and inhaling second hand smoke. Therefore, since these people are obviously choosing to smoke or inhale second hand smoke, we should not fund research on lung cancer. Agree?

btw-> Your humble OPINION does not change the reality. It exists. It's preventable. It's existence is a major drain on our healthcare system. Spending money on a preventable disease helps to, wait for it, prevent it.

Sex is NOT the only way to get AIDS, my friend.

A good friend of mine died of Aids. He was a straight guy, and monogamously married.

He was also given a wrong blood transfusion in a hospital.

Yes, we know how to prevent it, but asking everyone in the world to stop having sex isn't really reasonable.

It's politically correct right now. Doesn't make sense of coarse to people that are in the top 5 diseases that are killing Americans today.

There are cures for aids. Just no pharmaceutical cures someone can make billions off of.

Many of us know that aids is a preventable disease but should that keep us from helping those who have contracted that disease or those who are left fatherless or motherless? You could say the same thing about cancer, heart disease, and many other diseases. Jesus taught us to love our neighbor and what President Bush has done is to express that love on behalf of our nation.

The AIDS problem could virtually be eliminated, if people would keep their brains in their heads, instead of between their legs!
