Huckabee wanted to put aids patients in "camps"?

Mike Huckabee once advocated isolating AIDS patients from the general public, opposed increased federal funding in the search for a cure and said homosexuality could "pose a dangerous public health risk."

well, i already knew he was nuts, he did raise his hand when asked who didn't believe in evolution

he is not alone cuba also quartines Aids paitents

I think that's a wonderful idea. Of course it would certainly be hard to get someone to work there because all you would have is homo's and drug addicts...

I'm sure he doesn't now.

If that's true, that makes me like him even more.

Huckabee '08!

PD. I don't believe in evolution either.

Sounds good to me!

yes... apparently...

I'm just wondering if that will help him or hurt him with Republicans?

Smells like a disturbing dose of fascism to me.

And he was right!!!

I remember back in the early 90s there was a lot of rumors that HIV could be spread through saliva and the like. Now the public health community knew this wasn't the case, but remember that the Surgeon General back then was Jocelyn Elders, and she was deeply distrusted by conservatives for her statements about teaching sex to children and how good it was that downs syndrome babies got aborted. Also, AIDS was a lot scarier back before the introduction of anti-retroviral drugs and other therapies. HIV is no longer necessarily a death sentence in the developed world same way it was back then. It's clear that Huckabee's position on this issue has changed since then, as is the case with a lot of religious conservatives, who are now in the forefront of wanting to do something positive about AIDS in Africa.

Huckabee has been untruthful in his comments.

Regarding the 1992 questionnaire response, he now says "There was still a great deal of, I think, uncertainty about just how widespread AIDS was, how it could be transmitted. So we know more now than we did in 1992, all of us do -- hopefully."

But the truth is that 4 years earlier President Reagan's Surgeon General C. Everett Koop wrote "No matter what you may have heard, the AIDS virus is hard to get and is easily avoided. You won't just catch AIDS like a cold or flu because the virus is a different type. The AIDS virus is transmitted through sexual intercourse, the sharing of drug needles or to babies of infected mothers before or during birth."

If he ignores facts in pursuit of politics at the expense of people, he is unfit to be elected dog catcher much less any other office.
