Don't you love how they talk about AIDS like people don't have a choice in the matter?

Look how they talk about the "AIDS epidemic" spreading in Africa:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070330/ap_o...

It's like they are talking about the spreading of an insect from one location to another, which obvioulsy we would have no control over.

The tone of the article is "Well, these people have no choice except to have sex with multiple partners and inject drugs, so what can we do to help them?"

Kinda sad, isn't it? A disease that could be wiped out in two generations by monogamy and a decrease in drug use is talked about like there is no cure in sight.

What is our world coming to? Why are we spending BILLIONS to find a cure for a disease that can be so easily prevented? Why not spend the money on cancer research, or another worthwhile endeavor?

Because people want to do what they want to do without consequences. And when the consequences come, they are quick to cry about it.

AIDS can truly decrease dramatically if people were responsible when it came to their actions. AIDS just doesn't pop up.

(This does not include AIDS babies, rape victims, people who received this virus through a faulty blood transfusion or people who contracted this disease from an unfaithful spouse. )

No, you're right. Condoms never break. People don't lie. No one ever needs a blood transfusion. No one is born with AIDS, either.

It's all about promiscuity and homosexuality, right?

it's sad

gw

Oh, Tellmeanother, he also forgot the spread of disinformation in Africa. Some people there actually believe that sex with a virgin will actually rid them of the disease, so they rape young girls to try to cleanse themselves. According to the poster, those young girls don't need any of our help.

yeah thats it its all from broken condoms - you are an imbicile

aids is one way of controlling the population.

I know a six year old girl with AIDS.

She had no choice in what she was born with.

An epidemic, is an epidemic,.

Typical conservative tatic:Putting words in people's mouths:
"The tone of the article is "Well, these people have no choice except to have sex with multiple partners and inject drugs, so what can we do to help them?"

People do have choices, but people also have AIDS.
Your argument does sound like "Well I'e always hated gays and Africans anyway, so its not a big deal".

See what I mean?

Some African nations have HIV infection rates in excess of 35%! I'm sorry: if you choose not to keep it in your pants, knowing that you stand a 1 in 3 chance of infection if you have unprotected sex, perhaps it's Darwin at work.

In this country, the solution is even simpler: don't shoot up and don't do your buddy in the pooper. You'll be fine.

sex is biological impulse- its unnatural not to engage in sexual activity.
furthermore look at these people's lives- are you surprised they turn to drugs and sex?

and its not easily prevented- hiv is transmitted through blood, bodily fluids, and breast milk.
condoms break, doctors have a lack of medical supplies and some accidently use the same materials twice, hiv breast milk is healthier for a baby than dirty water or milk from sick animals, ect
there are so many ways to get hiv.
and research to cure it is a very worthwhile endeavor

I don't know HIV is bad as well as other STD's. Some people are victims and other SOB's spread it intentionally to people that are unaware... If you find the answer to what the world is coming to please tell me!

You are sounding very self-righteous. What you fail to understand is the cultural differences in Africa - especially among the tribal people. They have different beliefs and behaviors.

And, not everybody with HIV had a choice anyway. Or have you missed the cases transmitted by blood transfusions, unsterilized needles and other things.

Just thank your lucky stars that you escaped this dreadful disease...

they wont find a cure...drug companies are making too much on drugs to treat the disease...

I'm sure all those children infected at birth definitely had a say in it. Are you really that stupid?

How about extending the Sermon Jesus preached on the Mt of Olives.

If thy right hand offend you cut it off. For it would be better to enter the Kingdom of Heaven with one hand than to be cast into Hell whole.

So the extension would be to chop off your ________ (fib)

For it would be better to enter Heaven without a ______ Than to be cast into Hell with Aids.

My take on the article is a bit different then yours. And it was talking about Asia, not Africa. My take is since sex is a taboo subject in Asian culture that it's a double edge sword, since they can't teach people safe sex, abstinence and how monogamy being ways to prevent getting the decease.

Also since drug use is a crime in there culture. It does make a person who has aids who was an illegal drug user have more problems getting treatment then here in the United States of America. You have to understand a culture of other nations to understand the problems they face when dealing with certain decease such as HIV and AIDS.

Another thing, you can't say "Oh this is how we can stop the spread of such and such a decease." Especially a decease like HIV and AIDS, because of the human factor involved. People are sadly going to continue to have unsafe sex with multiple partners and do inter-venous drugs with dirty needles. It still happens here in the United States f America. So it's definitely not going to stop in a culture that feels it's taboo to talk about sex.

Edit: Am I the only person who actually read the article? I'd of course have written something similar if the article actually was about the AIDS epidemic in Africa, but this particular article is actually about the AIDS epidemic in Asia. An entirely different culture with a different set of morals.

you sir are the embodiment of
COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATISM

what would you do if your daughter was raped and you being such a conservative, made her have the child and the child turned up with AIDS from her fathers side
would you still be against AIDS research and abortion
i didn't think so

I dont think the answer is as simple as you think.
Plus- how can you force people to be monogamous?

If you don't understand what's going on over there, which you clearly do not, I'd suggest not asking questions that display your appalling lack of knowledge on the subject.

Africans should just stop spreading AIDS?? Thanks for your solution.

I'll let them know.

(if there was only a cure for stupidity..)
