This is kind of a sticky question regarding AIDS: If we were to seperate everyone with AIDS (See below)?

Essentially AIDS can only be transmission through sexual activity. Of course there is the rare occurance of transfer through blood transfusion etc... However, I was curous on you guys thoughts of seperating people with AIDS from the rest of society. They would eventually parish over time and AIDS can't live outside of the body unless in a lab. (The instant cure).

Yes it is true HIV can't be detected by most test within the first 6 months. Having bi-yearly mass population HIV exams. Essentially weeding out population with AIDS.

I'm not going to accuse you of ignorance or call you insensitive- I understand you are merely thinking, and have asked for thoughts.

There are several problems with this proposal-

First, how would we identify every person on this planet who has AIDS? Not everyone with the disease has a medical record- children in Africa, for example, may not even be aware that they're afflicted.

This does not speak toward those who carry HIV or AIDS but do not yet show symptoms- so again, HOW can we determine who has the disease?

Second, where do you propose we place all these people? They will not speak the same language, they will not come from the same culture- AIDS is not a disease which afflicts only one population- it's global.

Can you imagine the cost to place millions of people who don't speak the same language in a "colony"?

Third, what to do with them once they are in "the colony"? Let them fend for themselves? Again, the cost to provide adequate housing and resources (education, food, entertainment) would be astronomical.

This idea simply wouldn't work, and it's cruel and inhumane. Let us not forget that persons with AIDS aren't mindless zombies, they are people, and they most certainly wouldn't allow themselves to be shipped off somewhere. Imagine the fighting this would cause!

The best way to get rid of AIDS (barring a vaccine and cure) is NOT to contract it- to prevent new cases from occurring. This is accomplished through education and common sense.

The money it would take for your proposed colony would be much better spent researching a cure, educating those who don't have access to education, and helping those with the disease live more comfortable lives.

Yes, I am heartless too, but I have thought the same thing... Shipping them all to an island or africa or something like that. I feel so mean saying that, but I have also thought that they should mandate a tatoo on the pelvic line that says HIV when it is diagnosed. Too many people either dont know about it, or dont care if they infect people, and thats just as wrong.

And if you are someone who has it, it came from somewhere, wouldnt you like to kill that person, or dont you wish that there was some kind of warning to prtect you of them?

I don't think that we should separate people with AIDS if that's what you're asking. That is just wrong. Especially if Aids can't live out side the body.

that is very strange thinking, but hiv can easily be stopped if people make good decissions like protecting themselves its called condoms. today many young people and those uneducated, missinformed people use anal intercourse to keep from getting pregnate, that is a big joke, forget about pregnancy what about Aids, and all the other stds out there. as far as the segregation of Hiv positive people, they may out live the curent population of Hiv negative people since thay tend to be more health concient when they find out their status. the notion of segregation is as bad as it was when people of color were segregated. get after the caouse, unsafe sex, that will fisx the problem.

First, several of your assumptions are incorrect. AIDS is not only spread through sexual contact. In fact, the most common reason for the spreading of AIDS in many countries and regions is not sexual.

Second, having a disease, especially one that is not airborne contagious, is not a crime. Nor could it become one. So, the idea of rounding up people and forcing them to relocate is a violation of Constitutional protections in the US, and against European Union covenants, so that's two huge areas where your plan would not legally work.

Then, you have the problem of trying to force people to take medical tests, which is again illegal in many parts of the world. And even if you can force the tests, you'd need to find the funds to do that for billions of people every 3-6 months.

Let's assume you get past all of those legal and financial hurdles. You still have tens of millions of people, all over the world. Where are you going to put them? Are you just going to take over a medium sized county somewhere, evacuate all the existing population, and then install the new population. And do you have millions of guards you can put at the borders of this encampment to ensure that not one person ever gets out (because you'd only need one to defeat your goal).

It's impractical, illegal, an unaffordable. Not to mention so morally and ethically repulsive that it makes what Hitler did look sane by comparison.
