AIDS in Africa, Billions Donated, Results?

Bill Gates has donated billions of dollars to help the AIDS epidemic in Africa. My question is, why should the average american worker donate his or her hard-earned $5 or $50 or $100 to help AIDS in Africa if Bill Gates' billions of dollars can't cure it? What is the real reason behind AIDS continuing in Africa?

Please excuse me if anything I've mentioned above is ignorant.

if any of you out there have been to africa and seen the sqaullor..poverty and ignorance you would understand why aids runs wild in africa.Bill gates sent a handsome amt of money to assist the families and people with aids to give them a little comfort in an otherwise desperate situation.Hold your tongues and look into it further..belive me..it is no scam.

Its a scam .Hold on to your money and spend it on your own family .

I don't think anyone expects blue collar or even white collar workers to donate money to charities. I think often spending time working for local charities is more rewarding for you and others.
However, I mean, what could it hurt to donate 5 or 50 dollars to a good, trustworthy charity instead of buying something you don't need like a camera phone, or 200 dvds you'll never watch?

Anyway, I think a lot of progress has been done as far as HIV goes. Now they have a butt-load of drugs people can take to help them (here in the US or other countries with healthcare). I honestly don't know what it is like in Africa except that many of the people are in a bad situation (especially children/orphans) that wasn't particularly self-inflicted.

the AIDS in Africa hype is a racist lie...it is a way to divert the money that was going to progrmas that were saving lives - programs that gave real medical solutions to TB, malaria and dehydration - and using to preach absistenance and other missionary lies...

why aren't more ppl questioning how they got these outrageous statistics WITHOUT administering the so-called HIV tests...

T he problem is much more than money. You need to have the people in power to really care about helping other people. This goes from the top AIDS researchers in the world to the top people who control the information that gets released, to the top politicians who may be more interested in "getting theirs" first. Why do you think so much money is spent by drug companies to lobby in Washington? Go back and look at an article in the " Parade Magazine " published last year which stated how much money the Dept. of HHS spent to send people to an AIDS conference which was held in Barcelona. Then in the same article states how many more people and how much more money was spent by Dept. of HHS when there was an AIDS conference held at Disneyworld. I guess so many more people went to the Disneyworld conference because there was more to learn at the Body Wars exhibit.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is not sending billions to Africa. They are spending hundreds of millions on vaccine design, and in aid to many African nations, each year.

The orphans left by parents dying form AIDS alone, require money and manpower to help raise them to be functional adults who can help their nations carry on. Money alone cannot solve the problems, they also need people who care and can help with building hospitals and teaching children to read and write.

Many orphans spend their days tending farms and caring for siblings, so they cannot attend school. Many single parents, or grandparents caring for many children, are forced to work jobs rather than spending time helping the children become good citizens.

The AIDS problems in Africa did not arise in 10 years, it took several decades of increasing the scope of the epidemic, and likewise the solutions will take years, not months. At least Bill and Melinda Gates are taking concrete and well planned actions. We should all pitch in any way we can, even by just educating ourselves and our contacts about this crisis.

I would first like to inform you that the Money Bill gates and his wife donate does not necessarily go to only AIDS.
A fair share of that money also goes to TB, sanitation, hygiene, Mosquito nets, education and other issues affecting the continent of Africa.
A lot of the money also goes into research to find better treatment methods.
And the money does not actually go to Africa alone. It goes to all countries affected by HIV and TB.

Secondly, as a person i think the best way for you to give is actually help. If you want to get yourself involved, then i think you should personally go to Africa and see by your own eyes.

If you feel that the AIDS section is well covered there are other things affecting Africa like hunger that you could help. Most african families live on less than 1$ a day, and this is a family of a minimum of 4 people.
So imagine your 5$ feeding a family for a whole week.

Many different reasons but the main reason is unprotected sex. The Cathlioc church teaches many African's to abstain from sex and that using condoms is wrong and a sin against God. This doesn't help. Education has to be the answer and condoms should be made readily available although the Catholic church would oppose this view. Telling people not to have sex doesn't work it's like don't touch or don't look!
