Is there a reason for such human actions? (concerning HIV/AIDS)?

There could potentially be a cure for HIV/AIDS yet the government (people, really) are blocking it.

Why? Why is this happening? What can make people so cruel, as to do something like this?

If anyone is "blocking" a cure for HIV/AIDS, it is not the government, but greedy drug comapnies who stand to profit more from treating a disease, rather than curing it.

As for your question, there has been remarkable progress in the treating of HIV in recent years. Some drugs have even been shown to reduce the virus to a point where you can't even tell the person is infected by normal methods.

The reason in the past (in the 80s, when the disease first appeared) that the available drugs were not distributed was because the drugs were new, experimental and expensive. Only the wealthiest could get into the drug trials for treatments that had any effect. HIV has also always been seen as a disease that has affected minorities. It was once homosexuals, but now that the disease is rampant in parts of the world like Africa, it is also because people see HIV as a disease that the poor, uneducated and undeveloped nations get. No one is interested in treating anything that does not personally affect them.

The problem is in the society's perception of the disease, not some conspiracy from the top. We need to get people to care about curing HIV/AIDS to get the cure to be found and distributed.

I heard it has something to do with how expensive the cure is.

'Beyond Love' is a book about HIV/AIDS translated from French to English. 'And the Band Played On' is another book on this subject. Each explains how the U.S. dragged its feet about this disease because it was considered a 'gay' disease. Then when a French doctor discovered what it was, an American doctor took credit for it.

Well, I tend to agree with you, but I recently watched a documentary about this, and amazingly enough, GREAT strides have been made in the past decade- lots of new, more powerful HIV AIDS medications are now being used to great effect! Also, there is the question of the pharmaceutical companies....if there were a cure for muscular dystrophy, wouldn't we have found it out by NOW? Same with cancer and every other disease. I do think the government (repubs) have had something to do with blocking the cure. For *moral* reasons. It makes me sick.

People don't want to help sick people because when they cheat on their husband with their reverend that want to say they are morally pure. See like Jesus did, he shunned the poor/sick and hung out with the rich reverends who collect money like a 10% tax.

"How expensive the cure is"?

Leave it to the American government to put a price label on millions of lives. That makes me pissed. But on the other hand controlling a population that is growing exponentially is even more important. The deaths of those people, i think, are sacrifices we have to make to have a world that isn't unbearably over-populated.

Interesting question. I don't think anyone really has the right answer.
