I was just wondering, Could top Scientists have already discovered cures for cancer, aids, ms and other ills?

The reason why i ask is, if a cure for major dieseases was ever found, it would be in our best interests to not make the findings public. why??? Well, The worlds top drug companies are in Canada and the USA. If the major diseases are cured, these drug companies would go under, the health field and its spin offs i.e. pharmacies, specialists, rehabilitations, etc etc would experience huge huge huge drops in need, not complete but huge, I mean like 80 pecent. The job losses and export losses would be so dramatic it would drive Canada and USA economies into massive recession like we have not experienced since the depression. If you keep an open mind and just consider hot severe our economy would struggle, Finding cures for these ailments is a scary scary prospect, enough to make some not want to invest in the search for a cure. Than again finding a cure extends lives. If I had an illness I would want a cure found. At the same time I wonder about the result of these cures to society

Oh, God! That's a scary point of view. And wrong!
It would be in the interest of the pharmaceutical companies to produce the drugs for those illnesses. And I can assure you they will not go bankrupt since people will always get sick. Maybe AIDS' prevalence will decrease, because people are more aware of the way it's transmitted, but cancer's sure won't.
Anyway, the health industry is a very safe place to invest in, because it's very unlikely that you can live...70-80 years without ever getting some kind of illness (let's just say you won't die healthy).

It would be in the best interest of humanity for sure, but not the pharmaceutical companies who make billions of dollars on prophylactic medicines.

Drug companies are not in the business to "cure" anyone, they are in the business to make money off of "disease management".

Stem cell research holds a promise that is completely unknown but has the potential to cure diseases, but noone will touch it with public money.

That's why private money donated to various research groups is probably the best way to find a cure for anything. Drug company labs are only trying to improve drugs that exist and come up with drugs for disease management.

There are many non profit organizations which also donate money to private researchers who make many strides in medicine.

That's probably where the cures are going to come from, not the government researchers, because they get money from drug companies, universities who are privately funded are also on the cutting edge of research. Public money - government and red tape, Private money - makes things happen.

As bird in the sky said, there's always going to be sick people. Even if one disease is cured, and some of the pharmaceutical company's products go obsolete, there's always another disease to work on.

In the meantime, whichever company releases the cure for the disease gets to reap the enormous profits and prestige of that cure. I don't think any company would turn away the opportunity to sell 6.5 billion doses of a drug just because it would hurt sales of their cough medicine in the long run.

The marketing value of the cure alone would make it worth releasing. If you are looking for a drug to treat your sniffles, which company are you going to prefer, the one that also released the cure for AIDS, or their competitor that wasn't able to find that cure?

Even if all the major diseases were cured, there would be a huge market opened for all manner of pharmaceuticals aimed at alleviating the myriad ailments that accompany old age. With the major diseases gone, everyone will live to be a hundred years or more - each of them taking arthritis medicine, vitamins, metabolic supplements, Viagara, osteoporosis counter-measures, maybe even memory enhancers, mood alterants and ocular nerve maitenance medications every day.

A steady source of elderly people 'addicted' to the higher quality of life possible through pharmacy would be an incredible boon to the industry, and would far outweigh any benefits gained from withholding cures to maintain prophylactic sales now.

So no, I don't think the major companies are sitting on the cures to keep people sick so they can make money off them. There's more money to be made keeping them alive to old age, and then getting steady money off them.

no they did not discovered cure for cancer i wish they did so theres no more people suffering specially people who have cancer who wanna live more but apportunetly they die because of cancer.they said if you caught it early you will survive not true . you will survive for 5-10 years believe me it will come back and cancer will jump to another organ and the doctor will tell you we will stop the chemo because its not working anymore. and they will give you fame time how long will you live .

Sure. But even if there were I'm not sure I would want them around. For one thing, everyone dies one way or another and trying to find cures for every single disease is deluding ourselves to that fact. Second, if the above diseases were cured, I am almost certain something much uglier would come out. Take MRSA (Multiple Resistance Staph. Aureus) for instance, or so many of the other noscomial (hospital acquired) infections that are getting so hard to treat that it is better to let the person die than pump them full for antiobiotics that can make them go deaf, blind, and suffer from kidney and/or liver failure.
So yes, I agree with you, and I just go on hoping they keep those drugs to themselves. Although I will point out just a slight fallacy here: the drug companies know that these drugs would make them bankrupt, so why develop them in the first place??

I agree that someone somewhere has the cure for some if not all of these illness. I mean come on if we can break down the human G-Nome. If we can clone animals and in my mind they probably can and have cloned humans, what's to say they haven't cracked the secrets to cancer. Yes there would be money made if the cure was out there. Even more money is made a year by the same 6.5 billion people getting kimo therapy. Year after year health benefits in our country get Less and less. And each year the price of medicine gets higher and higher. If these people who own/run pharmaceutical company's really wanted to help, they would cut their profits and make it more affordable for the average American to get help.
OK lets look at a smaller level. Why can't we cure the common cold. We have medicine to help but not cure it. Our country will spend 5 billion on making a chocolate that doesn't melt in the sun but we can't take care of our own people medically. Our country has many secrets that it hides. I feel this is one of them.

Mmm they could've. However, I think the main reason why they didn't tell us yet is because they have not tested it or it has some dangerous side-effects. They could have formed a basis for it already though.

No, I can tell you with complete confidence, as someone who works in a research laboratory, that if a scientist found a cure, or even thought they found a cure for a disease, you would hear about it. The reason is that the incentives for academic scientists are somewhat different than for those in the drug industry. It is true that drug companies make more money in treating chronic disease, so they invest more of their research in chronic disease. Most scientists, however, do not have the same incentives. The primary reward for many academics is recognition. They want to be famous. And what better way to be famous than to cure a disease? Therefore, there is no conspiracy covering up cures to chronic disease. Furthermore, the economic benefits of having a healthy workforce would far outweigh the loss in drug revenue, and the economy would be stronger, not weaker, if chronic diseases were cured.

I have herd this before. And there are even a few bad examples of such holding back of discovery's, like Jonas Edward Salk, developer of the first successful vaccine for polio. I herd that he found the polio vaccine and did not release it till he thought his funding was going to be cut.
What about AIDS And Cancer, the only down fall would be that Doctors and there family also get Cancer and other ailments at the same rate as the general public, I know It is hard to believe but doctors are humans with real life human family members.

actually most of the cancers are curable (breast cancer, skin cancers, genital cancers etc)..the main condition is that the doctor can discover it as fast as possible and that means regular visits for investigations.
As for your opinion about drug companies..i think it would be in their best interest to discover cures..because people will always get sick..that is the fact and no one can change that. In it were to think like that, why did they put on market Insulin for example?

yes it is very possible and also quite plausible. There are many documented cases of very wealthy patients somehow becoming cured of many diseases. There is much speculation as to how this happened. Conspiracy theorists believe that the government is keeping many cures a secret for the wealthy. Not that I believe it but look at Magic Johnson!
