How close are scientists to developing cures for AIDS and Cancer?

I know its a difficult question to answer. Sorry. Just curious in case anyone knows anything.

Treatments for cancer have been around for a long time. It's a learning and trial and error situation with finding a cure. Curing cancer is an individual thing. Each person is different.

What works for one person, doesn't for another.

With AIDS, it's a virus. So far there is no cure for any viruses.

Vaccines are a preventative, not a cure. Once a person has a virus, all you can do is treat the symptoms.

they've already got one, but if they let it out, everyone will get cured and there will be no need for a lot of the businesses, foundations, and hospitals specializing in treatment, causing many many people to lose their jobs...thus causing the economy to drop significantly......its a vicous cycle.

i read somewhere recently that a cure for aids is about 20 years away, just a scientist's prediction. There's work been done on all types of cancers where cures and treatments are being researched, check out the source below, it's a great site:

the only solution for curing aids is if someone like Bill Gates obtained aids and spent his entire fortune researching a cure.

These types of diseases are mutating all the time so cures will never be found to prevent these things.

There is more money in treatments than cures, so treatments are given more research time, which means a cure could be discovered accidentally, or the woeful gaps in our nutrition could be discovered to be the cause.

On a cynical note, would there be any point? you can bet the cure would be so damn expensive nobody could get it on the NHS anyway...

There is a great deal of money ploughed into this, and I wonder if you were a scientist & you did stumble on a cure knowing that you鈥檙e well paid job was at an end鈥?what would you do?.
