No cure for cancer?

How is there no cure if Magic Johnson mysteriously was cured of his AIDS from '92? If there is a cure for the 'un-curable' disease called AIDS, then why some people think there is not one for cancer? Are those people that naive?

Explain the incurable disease AIDS then since he's as healthy as an ox. He's living well. Still don't believe that there isn't a cure for cancer if this Johnson fellow is magically healed of an incurable disease.
I don't want no doctor's note "there is no known cure" or anything along those lines.
This just shows how naive some people are in my and many of my co-workers opinion.

Magic Johnson is still HIV positive. He controls his disease with drugs, just like many other people do. Cancer is also following that route with many people 'living with their cancer' and having drugs that keep the tumors from progressing. (many malignant cancer tumors create their own blood vessels, their are drugs available to cut off that blood supply and keep the tumor from growing . . problem is that not all types of tumors respond, but many do). Cancer is becoming a chronic disease, somewhat like diabetes which is not curable but can be controlled with insulin.

Cancer is over 200 different diseases, many of them treatable, especially in the early stages. It is only metastatic cancer, advanced cancer that is the most difficult to treat and most difficult to bring a patient into remission.

he was not cured from HIV. it is just not acting up and there is no cure for cancer unless the governemnt is holding it back (conspiracy theory).

Because there is no "cure" for cancer except prevention by maintaining a healthy lifestyle (eating right, sleeping right, low stress, etc,...) but even that isn't guaranteed. Cancer can go into remission; some people can go the rest of their lives without reoccurance, and some don't. We all have cancer cells in our bodies, it's just that sometimes the immune system can be weak, or it can not recognize them as bad cells.
AIDS is the same way. Magic Johnson is in remission and his condition is controlled, in remission right now.

Well, no offense to you but perhaps you should do some researching online to learn more about cancer, and more about AIDS. I'm sorry to say I don't personally know Magic Johnson, so perhaps you can try to reach his agent or something to have him give you an answer. Good day.

I will address your question in 2 parts.

First, the response to your AIDS remarks. There is no cure for AIDS. There are treatments that can reduce the (active) HIV count to near zero as in cases like Magic Johnson. However, these treatments are most effective in the early stages of AIDS and must be taken forever. Some viruses like HIV and herpes may remain dormant for years inside a cell. While in this phase, infected cells present no surface antigens for the virus. Therefore, they are undetectable by antibodies. On a larger scale, they appear in remission and present no symptoms. This does not mean a cure by any means. The virus is in a lysogenic phase and can become lytic spreading HIV again throughout the body.

As for cancer, cancer is not one disease. It is hundreds, perhaps thousands, of different diseases each characterized by the genetic mutations involved and the cell type afflicted. There is not one single disease of the genetic mutations that has a cure (MS, Tay-Sachs, Parkinson's, etc.). Cancer is no different except the mutations are multiple and some (if not all) mutations are accumulated during the patients lifetime not at birth. (Somatic versus Germ cells). We simply do NOT have the ability to detect and manipulate the human genome in vivo at this time.

So, I ask you.... are you really that naive?
