Do you agree with what alan keyes has said about aids?

I believe this is the full quote you're referring to and its context in a debate during the 2000 presidential race:

Q: Should we appropriate $300 million out of the surplus to help fight AIDS in Africa?
A: The premise of your question [is that we] measure compassion is by how much money we鈥檙e going to throw at some problem, regardless of whether the problem is susceptible to being dealt with by all the money. After all, asking whether we should spend $300 million to cure an incurable disease is kind of an academic point, and you should realize that.


Personally, I think Keyes is an insane person. I sort of see what he's getting at, that money alone won't solve problems. But he seems totally confused by the question. He thinks the 300 million would be used to 'cure' AIDs, but presumably it would be used to set up clinics that educate people, distribute condoms, and prevent people from getting HIV. That's a worthy goal; it would make a difference. And Keyes is a crazy ******.

How sad this person is so uninformed. I wonder what he'd say if he had AIDS?

He's right. Money won't cure AIDS. Money won't cure anything.

But it will be impossible to find a cure for AIDS, or any other major disease, without an infusion of money.

Using his logic, we should not look for a cure for anything if we have to spend money to do it. I wonder if he'd believe that if a member of his family came down with it.

I don't know what his beef with Africa is. I don't know why he is dead set against alleviating the suffering among the huge population of Africa that is suffering from AIDS.
