If we had put the same energy in curing cancer that we did with hiv aids would we now have a cure ? We haven't for either, the last great stride in this country was a vaccine for polio. Since then the medical industry has devoted itself to maintenance rather than cure. It's like they just gave up, and realized the money is in continuing the illness and managing the symptoms. Aside from the pill for erectile dysfunction and other unnecessary drugs for illnesses created by the drug industry. Can you think of any new developments that will have a lasting impact? Well there isn;t a cure for HIV, so no, I don't think so We have made great strides in curing cancer. Lots of energy is being devoted to curing cancer - its just that a cure has been harder to find for some cancers. Millions of hours have been spent trying to find a cure by people running distributive computing projects such as the one at www.grid.org being run for Oxford University by United Devices. I myself have devoted 4yrs 227days in computing power to this project - loads of others have devoted more. You too can do your bit by joining the project! Vast sums of money have been poured into cancer research for a lot longer than HIV has even existed. Dramatic progress has been made, but like aids we are still a long way from a cure. |
