How long have people been searching for a cure for HIV/AIDS?

I need to find out for school and I can't find the answer - or I'm just too lazy to find it.

Since it was first diagnosed in 1981. It wasn't called AIDS until 1982 and the virus HIV was isolated and identified in 1983.

It first hit the headlines in 1984.

HIV does not necessarily lead to Aids, but the medication they put you will eventually lead to Aids and kill you. Many thousands of Americans have refused treatment and they have not got worse, yet you wont find this evidence in the mainstream media as the government don't want you to know this. Theres too much money to be made out of Aids, you think with all that time (since 1984 24 years) money, and thousands of specialists they cant find a cure????, yet supposedly they sent three actors to the moon in the sixties!!!
