How far have reshearchers gone with medical cure for hiv(aids) ?

they have developed drug coctails (a number of precsription meds) that will boost your immune system in order for your body to bring the HIV virus level in your blood down to a level in which it can not be detected in a blood test....does that mean you're cured....Hell no...you are still at risk to infect others and run the chance of the virus level in your blood explode back up to a dangerous level the minute you stop taking the meds. It's also extreamly expensive.....look to be spending upwards of $2000-$3000 a month for the medications with can be up to 20 different pills that you have to take each day. it's a great advancement in medicine, but it gives people a false sense of safty. they begin to think that they don't have to use protection because there are medications out there they believe can cure them of the HIV infection and even go as far as not refusing to have sex with a person who they know is infected with HIV. This ill informed mentality becomes a harsh reality when they contract a strain of the virus that is not affected by the coctail. the coctail is not a cureall for HIV there are strains of the virus that are immune to the medications.....so be careful

unfortunately there is no cure yet but it is getting closer everyday what there is today that ten years ago was impossible is medicines which can control it this means that what was once a death sentence is no longer that most times this is done by using a cocktail made of several different drugs

I don't know what level of education you are at, and it maybe over your head, so heres the breakdown.

There is a novel treatment being investigated called RNAi. It makes use of an old part of immune system, to break down virus RNA. It involves transfecting cells with siRNA's which with the help of some cellular proteins, is able to destroy specific mRNA's ie viral ones. This paper (see address above) is about some research into using this to treat HIV/AIDs and shows some promising results. However, don't get your hopes of a cure up, because this is still quite a few years away from being marketed.

I believe that they may have started animal trials of an RNAi treatment...
