Do you think the government has a cure for AIDs?

That's my boyfriends theory. He thinks the govt. is hiding it because they don't have enough money to make enough of it and people would go crazy to get at it. He thinks that's how Magic Johnson is still alive, because money talks. I'm not sure if I agree or not, but am sure the government must be hiding a lot of sh*t from the general public that most of us wouldn't believe.

Actually, I have AIDs and was diagnosed in 1999, I am still alive and continue to work full time and live a normal life. There are medications now that keep the virus under control. I know people who have been positive for 20+ years. Your boyfriend needs to check out www.thebody.com and educate himself a little more, no there is no cure and I believe that the government is not looking real hard for a cure, the drug companies are making big bucks off of the people who are on meds, my medicine costs $2,000.00 per month, thank goodness for health insurance.

I think that there a cures for cancer and aids if all the scientists were to get together and share their ideas and findings, but everyone is so greedy that they don't want to partner up. They want the cure to be in their name and their name only, so that's why it's taking forever. I think if several diff. ones got together, we'd have the cure, and a lot of lives would be saved.

Viruses don't have cures. Look it up. 25 million proof cases so far.

The large drug corps are the ones who spend millions developing new drugs and attempting to cure deseases like AIDS. They do it for profit. So if they had developed a cure after spending millions and millions of dollars looking for it, do you and your boyfriend really think they would keep it secret instead of recooping their massive investment?

It's NOT that the gov't has the $$$$ to protect every American citizen. Money talks--bottom line. If you got the right cash, you can live, buy your way out of doing time for crime(s), get ahead of the game, win as you watch the common man lose out.

The cure of AIDS DOES exist--we just need to raise the hell needed to expose and release this cure so we ALL can be protected FAIRLY.

There are 500,000 physicians in the US. if 1% of them have AIDS right now, that would be 5,000 doctors. They all make six figure salaries. Don't you think that this group would be able to pressure someone to expedite research if possible?

Ditto for nurses, millionaires, dentists, biochemists and so forth who might have AIDS (or HIV) or know someone who does. If there were a probable cure, they would be working on it, or pushing someone else to work on it.

Also most medical research is on the net. There is no vast reserve of hidden stuff. Don't forget that viruses are thousands of time smaller than bacteria. There's no conspiracy.

Two easy reasons when someone really famous has AIDs then they would prolly get that cure and the US almost for sure wouldn't be the only country to know the cure if there was one and the other countries would sell them to the US for billions and billions of dollars.
The government does hide plentyyyy of things i dont doubt that but if it was money then i'm sure after u cured some real rich guys case of AIDs he'd be forever in debt and doubt mass amounts of money along with multiple other people..

I am not a conspiracy theorist or anything, but the money is in the treatment not the cure. They make a lot more money allowing you to live comfortably with a few expensive prescriptions that you have to take for the rest of your life. It's not profitable for them if you get a shot and you're cured...a one hitter quitter so to speak. I think it's the same for cancer.

Well, I don't know for sure but I will say this. As many promiscuous government politicians out there and none of them have been diagnosed with AIDS. It kind of makes me wonder.

Because this started with your boyfriend, you are in a good position to see how conspiracy theories work.

First, you make up an idea. (There is a cure for AIDS, and the government has that information.)

Then you make up reasons why it makes sense. (They can't tell anyone, because there isn't enough money to produce the medicine for everyone.)

Even come up with examples that seem to support it. (How else could Magic Johnson still be alive?)

Ignore any evidence that doesn't agree with your theory. (AIDS is caused by a virus. Viruses are not cured (although they can be vaccinated against).)

And there you have it. Something you can start believing in and convincing others of.

You should send this one to Rosie O'Donnell. She grabs onto nonsensical ideas and shouts them from her soapbox. (Actually, she doesn't have one right now, but I heard that she is being considered for The Price is Right (new name: The Price is Right, and the Hostess is Nuts).

There are plenty of anti-viral meds which have proven quite effective in treating HIV.

This is nothing new, mind you.

Most people who start treatment fast enough can put HIV in remission these days.

I don't know I'd suggest that the government is sitting on the cure, but I know pharmaceutical companies are more interested in treatments rather than cures.

No, they don't. Magic Johnson is a rich man and can afford a lot of experimental treatments in other countries. Some can extend one's life, such as repeated blood transfusions and GCCR5 antagonists.

Consider this a test...your boyfriend is a moron. Exactly how does your b/f think that the incredibly inept U.S. Gov't would find a cure for AIDS when they can't balance a checkbook? Beyond that...what makes him think that other organizations wouldn't also find this cure...such as other governments (using his twisted theory) or companies that actually do research?

Unfortunately, there is no cure for AIDS at this time. Even the best treatments only forestall the inevitable by several years.

As I have noted before, conspiracy theories are great fun--I enjoy them, myself--but you aren't supposed to believe them for real.

I doubt it because it's become a kind of back burner item in the USA. I think that the only way to find a cure is to investigate the cause and no one wants to do that because of the responsibility.

It's been widely reported that AIDS came out of South Africa 30-40 years ago, and the only connection my Detective brain can come up with is the heart transplant experimentation that was going on in Africa during that time under Dr. Christian Barnard. After all, he was experimenting to try to suppress the human immune system so donor hearts wouldn't be rejected. I'd start looking in that direction if I were in charge.
