Indian president finds a way to cure AIDS?

In a 1978 interview with American broadcaster Dan Rather, Desai stated that as part of a traditional health practice, he drank a small amount of his own urine each day. This interview resulted in a brief flurry of publicity about the Indian prime minister.

Urine can't cure anything. If you are healthy, it consists of water and a few trace substances. If you are unhealthy, it can contain blood cells and pathogens.

Either way, since it's coming from your own system, it was already IN your body to begin with - it didn't cure you of HIV infection while it was in there the first, time, so why would it cure you if you take it back in again?

This is a centuries-old practice, but has no proven medical benefit.

I hadn't heard about this, and I'm not sure I understand how consumption of urine would affect an infection within your own T-lymphocytes, though I suppose techincally urine is 'toxic waste.'

Did he say that he had AIDS, and that the urine had cured it? I don't think they even classified it as a known disease back in 1978.
