Will Bill Gates and Warren Buffet make money if they cure AIDS? They Say they are in it for charity, but..?

one of their many goals is a cure for malaria and Aids.
Obviously they and the pharmaceutical company will hold the patent and probably will give the medicine out to the under privileged free, but won't those in industrialized nations pay? does anyone know exactly how the foundation is set up, Obviously the pharmaceutical companies must be dying for this research money but what's the split? What pharmaceutical company is getting the most research money? Is warren Buffet in it for the money, he is donating shares of his stock. And everyone says emerging countries are where the future money is. Bill gates is very excited about the laptop that will cost$100 , run his O/S and work in desolate conditions.

They'll go down in history as more than just the richest assholes on the face of the planet - that will be reward enough. They want to leave behind a true legacy - like Carnegie Hall or Stanford University.

eh... looking for a cure is at least better than what many pharmaceutical companies are doing now...

many only look for the next drug to help you live with the disease that you will have to buy for the rest of your life... not a cure, but to help you live with the disease...

Gates and Buffet already earned tons of money and fame in business. I think they are trying to do as the old robber barons of the 19th century and become philanthropists in their old age. If they can finance a cure for AIDS, they will feel great, and will ensure their fame for at least 100 years. They will also feel good about doing good, and will be doing good for the sake of doing good.

hat's an interesting thought about Gates selling a lot of software in the 3rd world. But I think he's giving up most of his managment tasks.

From what I have heard, they are just trying to save the world. Personally I think that they are making things worse. Starvation and disease are natures way of controlling population. The longer that you help AIDS victims live, the more it spreads. Don't get me wrong, I would do the same thing if I knew the person dying, but these are strangers. Well I guess they are better that me.

Who cares. The cure is the important goal. Money is a means to an end. . .it's not the end in and of itself.

Why can't you just think that perhaps they are doing it because it's the right thing to do... certainly they can't be in it for the money ... They are "good" people who care about mankind and the earth. Let's give thanks for them and their generosity!
