No, there is no cure as yet. The best available treatment can only suppress the HIV infection, slowing or even reversing the decline in immune function that leads to AIDS. The most important way of stopping HIV is preventing new infections.

HIV is an incurable virus. The best way to "stop" HIV is by preventing infection all together.

In cases where a health worker gets pricked with a needle, or someone gets raped, immediate prophylaxis with antiretrovirals is another preventative measure. Antiretrovirals are also given after birth to children born to HIV+ mothers. This drastically cuts down on the chance of mother-infant infection.

This question comes up regularly. I'm answering it from the dissident perspective, which does not recognize HIV as the cause of AIDS.
