Erectile Dysfunction drugs, ect type TV commercials, Why the "not a cure for an STD" disclaimer?

Whenever I see an ED RX drug commercial or any RX Drug commercial dealing with male genetailia/sex/libido there is a disclaimer saying something like "This does not cure or prevent AIDs or any other STD".... Well no **** sherlock is what I say. Is this disclaimer really needed that bad? Are people really so dumb they need to be explicitly told this? I MUST be missing something here....

I've seen the warning for ads for herpes medication and birth control pills. My guess is that the warnings are included because many people do not understand that when a medication prevents certain unpleasantries (such as herpes flair ups and pregnancy) and diseases while having sex, that medication does not prevent ALL possible unpleasantries that may be caused by having sex.IN other words, many people may think, "If it can prevent me from getting herpes from my partner, maybe it can prevent me from getting pregnant and also from contracting any STD that he or she may have."

Trust me there are people out there that are that stupid. If it comes down to sex or drugs. Stupid people exist. You are smart to believe that there is no reason for it but if you talk to someone that you don't know you will realize that there are people that would believe it can prevent STD's and AIDS so they have to put it on all Rx's that deal with sex even birth control.

Yes, there are people out there that are that stupid. The companies add the disclaimer to protect themselves from lawsuits. Lawsuits filed by people who thought, "Duh, I never knew that, once I got this big thing, I couldn't go out and sleep with anyone I met, and not get herpes". They also like to say they are not promoting unprotected sex.
