For anyone into medicine and politics: is this true?

Is it true that we are capable of finding the cure to aids and other diseases, but we never will because it costs too much money and it's easier for the government to make money off of us by giving everyone medicine?

Not true at all. My niece is a biochemist who works with the HIV virus, mapping out RNA sequences. A vaccine is being desperately sought.

Newswise, a daily science and medical news site, provides updates on breakthroughs in cancer treatments. Cancers which would have killed us 20 years ago now have a 90 percent survival rate.

Remember, all medications come with patents, so the drug companies stand to make even more if cures are available.

It's possible there might be a cure for HIV, but it's absurd to attach a conspiracy theory to it. All sorts of things are possible if you have an unlimited budget and plenty of time. But the conspiracy theories are just silly. There's a lot of money spent on research, and not that much profit in the drugs. If it were easy to develop better treatments, they'd be on the market. When there's a cure for anything, it gets marketed. So why would HIV (or cancer, or any of the other fill-in-the-blank conspiracy theories) work on different rules?
Not only that, some research is proprietary, but if there were anything that big, it would be impossible to keep it secret.

No. The government isn't making money off of people's medications. Scientists aren't out to get you, you know. They're people like everyone else. Someone who could cure cancer or AIDS would be a hero, make more money than they'd ever make letting people die. This is just another baseless conspiracy theory pushed by the people who market phoney cures for diseases they know they can't cure, and they're the ones watching people die and responsible for it.

I've always heard that this was true and that big health insurance corporations were in on it too. However I would like to believe that our country is better than that, and that lives of human beings take precedent over profit. Because if we believe that an idea so horrible, such as this to be true, then what hope do we have for tomorrow?

UTMB(i think it was UTMB, a Texas school nonetheless) has a scientist who is claiming that he can arrest the HIV virus .... been in the news lately

no it isn't true. the 1st person or company to come up with a cure will make a fortune.

just think about smallpox and polio.

It is very likely true. It's also possible that the cures are out there in rainforests and other wildlife areas but we will never get there because of political, social, economic, and evironmental reasons.
