My kitty is VERY sick..? |
And it happened really quickly. Sunday he was playing with our other cat and attacking people as usual, and that night he's puking and by morning he's falling over when he tries to walk. We took him to a natural curing vet yesterday, he says the kittens to bad to tell whats wrong with him, but he says he suspects worms. He gave us 4 different kinds of medications, and to bring him back wed. Now last night while I was sitting with my mom giving him his meds, i said it kinda looked like he had AIDS because he has a pot belly. And he won't eat anything so we've been giving him water/milk/yogurt through a syringe little by little. Is it possible my kitty has AIDS? or Worms? What are signs for these things? It happened so quickly. And the vet said I'd done a wonderful job so far, because I had started bottle raising him since the days his eyes opened. He was a stray. What's wrong with my baby? :( Hi there, Although I think natural is good, under these circumstances I would take the kitten to a medical vet as soon as possible. Explain what the "natural curing vet" suggested and everything you have tried to help the kitten. I would not delay, sounds like your kitty needs medical help now. Chances are he has worms...but the only way to find out forsure is to take a stool sample to the vet to get tested, which medication did he give you for the worms? Drontal tablets work great, and on all types of worms...but by the sounds of it I would say bring him back to the vet ASAP so they can run tests.... What is a "natural curing" vet? Is that like an alternative medicine type of deal? Take your cat to a REAL vet, you know, one who went to vet school and has a vet licence. Your cat has an infection and needs help. i wouldnt think he has aids however he is obviosly sick... my oldest cat was the same way and they injected him with a gel.. i would take him to a higher quality vet because this isnt something you should wait around to see what happens with .... best of luck your not helping the cat by giving him milk. cats are lactose intollerant. take the cat to a real vet and get this taken care of bring him to the vet again and say look there is obviosly something wrong wha can i do for my cat to make him better Take him to the pet hospital or the vet again duh! . NOT A VET! You say he is "puking" but is he pooping? I don't know how old he is but if he has a distended belly and stuff is coming up and not out, it sounds like he is clogged. Milk water and yogurt would be great if he were a cow but depending on his age, cow based food would cause a young kitten to get impacted (falling over when walking could be do to his bowels being backed up and rock hard) and when you are bottle feeding a baby kitty you have to mother the other (end that is) as well. The mother licks the bum to stimulate the flow of the bowel and to teach the kitten how to grasp the sensation and muscle control needed to poop. I you have noticed little or no poop (I say little because just like with a human baby, they can become compacted and still have small liquid bowel movements because they are able to pass the liquid stool around the impaction. A cats tongue is rough so you should try a warm sponge with that scotch brite type backing, a warm water flushing (basically a lubed eyedropper with warm soapy water gently inserted or forcefully placed outside of the rectum, a warm water soak which stimulates the bowel and could release of gas pressure that will make him more comfortable- he sounds too young to have a fur ball but he could have eaten anything. Something as small as a qtip or lint can cause major problems. Keep on him, you are doing a great job, if the "natural curing" vet did not even explore this, get your $ back, do a belly exam yourself. Lay him back and tap or thump around and see if you can tell where the hallow sounds and thuds start/stop. If you here a lot of hallow, he is full of air. Check his bum for worms. I have seen cased where the worms are in plain view and Google the yogurt idea as I cant imagine introducing an additional live bacteria with whatever was in the worm med. is a good idea. You may be producing serious gas pressure. Just read he was playing with your other cat- if your other cat is hairy and there is a chance the little guy might be trying to root on it, get hairball gel and try a little. Good luck. I am not sure and as I stated no where near a vet, but feline leukemia from what I understand would have caused some other earlier symptoms and usually doesn鈥檛 present as a sudden ailment. You would have seen stuff like no weight gain, oozing eyes/ears, skin infections, sneezes/respiratory problems and just in general a cat in poor health. Take him to an animal hospital ASAP to be treated. You need diagnosis by a qualified medical vet in this case, natural healing may be good, but if it's a medical problem it will not resolve on its own. If it's a disease process, he needs medication. If it's something like a twisted bowel (which would cause the tummy to swell) he could need surgery. The milk and yogurt are not good ideas - they will cause kitty more discomfort as cats do not process dairy products well. Organic chicken broth, pureed baby food, (nothing with onions, spices, garlic it it) specially formulated cat's milk from a pet store if he will accept it will help keep him hydrated, but it really, really sounds as if the animal hospital/vet option is the best one right now because he is so sick and so small. Please don't delay, get treatment for him right away. It's hard to tell. More details are necessary. How old is your kitten? Sounds more like he ate something toxic. Worms usually cause diarrhea and a bloated belly but not falling over - at least none of the cats that I've fostered did that. Would be best to get a second opinion as giving him meds for something he doesn't have will do more harm than good. Try a holistic vet. That's what I have. What shots and tests have been done on your kitten? That would be the next logical step to rule out Aids or Feline Leukemia or any other problem. Test first before treating. Meanwhile, keep you kitten well hydrated. Give him some organic chicken broth (or regular if that's all you have) and salty liquids that will encourage him to drink water on his own. Then that might stimulate his appetite. Nature's Variety raw food is the best for optimum health. Hope everything works out for you. I just had a similar thing happen with my cat Sammy. He was absolutely fine one day then sick and had a swollen belly the next. We brought him to the vet who in turn wanted to take xrays. I called to see how he was doing and the outcome and the vet told me he had died. Besides being absolutely shocked and devastated, I was confused. It ended up he died of kidney failure. It is an extremely common thing to happen in cats, especially male cats. |
