Cure for AIDS when when when when when when when ?

WHENNN ??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Contrary to what many cynical idiots think, the government isn't hoarding the cure and don't want to give it out because they will lose money. People are working on the cure but it is hard because the virus mutates very easily. When some cures were found successful like AZT, the virus mutated enough so that the drug was ineffective. The reason vaccines are hard is because the virus is disguised as a sugar and the cells take it in. The body thinks it is something good and natural.

I am a psychology major with a minor in sociology therefore I am looking at the sociological point of view.

There will never be a cure for AIDS. There are more fundings out there for the cure of polio than there are for AIDS, even though HIV is the 4th leading cause of death. Why will there never be a cure? The majority of people living with AIDS are in Africa. There would be no possible way for those in severe poverty to afford the treatment and lets be serious, the person who found the cure would not be selfless enough to cure everyone with AIDS in Africa. Society would then shun him for such a selfish act of finding a cure for AIDS but not curing those suffering.

It's the way it is.

Unlike the other posters, I'm an actual HIV-1 researcher.

There is no secret cure for HIV, and there is no almost ready to be released therapy. A previous poster mentioned AZT, an antiviral drug. This was not a cure, it just slows the virus down. Unfortunately, the virus eventually mutates to resist AZT. We have other antiviral drugs that work to slow HIV down, but none that cure it, and resistance is a constant problem. Fortunately with the drugs we have now, HIV infection has become a manageable condition. However, successful therapy requires taking multiple medications every day.

Contrary to earlier posters, there is a lot of interest in finding a cure or prevention for HIV infection. There are countless scientists across the globe working on developing new antiviral drugs. There are scientists working on a couple of rather outlandish therapies that would provide functional cures by seeding the body with immune cells that are resistant to HIV (none of these approaches likely to see any broad application within the next decade or more). There are other researchers working on vaccine development, and still others working on antimicrobials that could be used by women before sex to block HIV transmission.

There is intense interest in HIV therapy, but the problem is an extremely difficult one to tackle, since the virus is so good at evading the immune system and rapidly mutates to escape antiviral drug therapy. Any scientist who manages to find a cure for HIV would be a shoo-in for the Nobel Prize--who wouldn't want that?

Edit: There has been a great increase in the funding directed towards HIV-1 treatment, prevention, and research. President Bush dramatically increased funding with the Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, and Obama is continuing funding. In 2010 $26 billion is directed towards HIV, with $2.8 billion of that going towards research.

I think in the next 5-10 years for sure, they already have so many great ways to do it to, they just need to perfect it, which takes time. Im sure they will have one by that time maybe even sooner.

Never. There is no profit in a cure for AIDs. We dont cure diseases anymore because pharm companies can make a lifetime of money vs. a one shot cure.

as soon as the govt gives it to us
