Did matthew perry become an acoholic because he was severely depressed?

i hard he became addicted to drugs as a result of drinking, but rehab for drugs and/or acohol didn't solve the problem because he was depressed. therefore, i think the whole thing was triggered from anxiety and depression because i heard that he was extremely sensitive. did the popularity of the show overwhelm him? i mean thinking, what would happen if im not good enough while the show was a complete hit, disappointing many, which leads to anxiety. i heard he was extremely sensitive. he also had a seizure a few years ago due to an adverse reaction from barbiturates, which is used to aid sleep or calm anxiety.

It's a common indicator. Often depression or other mental health issues can cause a person to do drugs or drink and vice-versa. It's a vicious circle that is difficult to break.

Depression and anxiety are not related to or caused from celebrity or success or lack thereof. People suffer from it from a chemical imbalance no matter what the situation. Many drink to self medicate and anti depressants have a spooty record for a lot of folks. In short, you can treat symptoms sometimes but there is no cure.

It's very possible. It's quite common for people with depressive illnesses or anxiety disorders to self-medicate with booze and/or drugs. They become dependent on the substance, go to rehab and sober up but if the primary mood/anxiety disorder isn't successfully treated there's a high likelihood of relapse.
