I'm not elligible for aid?

I talked to the the adivisor at the community college I want to go and since I'm under 23, not married and have no kids I need the 2006 tax returns of my parents. My mother hasn't worked in about 5 years living off her bf and his family and he was a drug dealer.(nice right) My father....I have never lived with him and he has never claimed me on his tax and his returns would not help me, so he says. I am 18, GED recipient and I really want to go to college, where else can I get the money?

You are still eligible for financial aid. You are supposed to be able get help filling out the forms from any college (or high school )even if you are not going to attend that college and, you CAN apply for aid without a tax return. If you cant get any help from your advisor, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov. You can fill out your financial aid forms online. You can call them at 1-800-4-FED-AID if you have questions. They should be able to help you.

Fill out the FFSFA ( I think that's it). It's the form for financial aid. When I went to college, I filled that out with only my income. I was 18, not married and living on my own. I didn't have to provide anything of any of my parents info. You should be able to get something.

I also had a GED and no way of getting my parents tax returns. Contact them and try applying for the Pell grant. If you're a non-white female, there are a ton of other grants and scholarships you can apply for also. Use what you've got.

can you claim independent? If you live with your mother, ask her to file a tax form. All she has to do is file and claim no income. In the long-run, that would make you eligible for food stamps, gov aid and a grant. Take all the fed help you can get!
