Just prescribed restoral (temazepam) benzoiazepine 30mg for sleep?

I have just taken this, but it being in the class of benzo's the affect is very much like xanax, Valium and those types of drugs. so why is its primary function a sleep aid when it feels like any other benzoiazepine? What is the difference?

BENZODIAZEPINES DIFFER IN THEIR INDIVIDUAL DRUG PROPERTIES AND POTENCIES ,THIS DRUG HAS MORE HPNOTIC EFFECT[INDUCES SLEEP] THAN OTHERS BENZODIAZEPINES

if it effects you like all other benzo's you may need something else. For most people Valium and Xanax will lead to sleep if prescribed correctly. Pharmacists say when you take a med for sleep you should lie down within 10 minutes of taking it, or you'll 'push thru' the therapeutic time range and the med will not be effective. Try taking it and then going to bed. If it does not work well for you ask for a 'sleeping pill' such as Ambien.

Restoril is not as chemically strong as the others, that could do more damage to your body, interact with other drugs you may be taking, and totally mess up your entire biorhythm of sleep and wakefullness.
It is better suited for insomnia, whereas the other benzos are more for different levels of anxiety

All benzodiazepines bind to benzodiazepine receptors enhancing GABA (the "calming" chemical). The main difference between the benzodiazepines is the half life and potency. They all work the same way. Temazepam has antianxiety properties, muscle relaxant properties, anticonvulsant properties and sedation properties just like diazepam (valium), alprazolam (xanax) and the other 50 or so benzodiazepines on the market around the world. The only difference really is what the drug companies choose to market the drug for and request approval for it to be used as. Temazepam was brought to the market for the treatment of insomnia.
Sedative hypnotic drugs are not the best or healthiest drugs in the world to be taking. I recommend that you check out these web sites read this http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual/ and http://www.bcnc.org.uk

So there is no real difference. Oh yea forgot to add in this page. This is a page with equivalent potency's as well as elimination half life of the various benzodiazepines http://www.bcnc.org.uk/equivalence.html

Hope this helps.
