TROUBLE SLEEPING, using ambien 2nd night, less than 2 HOURS SLEEP per night and things are getting bad?

at night lately when i lay down my mind won't slow down enough to sleep. at first i tried over the counter sleep aids (including nyquil, melatonin, lavender, warm milk, etc.), i don't eat or drink caffine much, maybe a cup of coffee on a weekend if that, no drugs or alcohol. i always try to get to bed by 10pm because i have to get up almost daily at 6am. i've discussed this with my dr. and she prescribed 5-10 mg ambien so i started with 5mg at 9pm and after no results i took another 5mg at midnight with no results.stayed awake that night until shortly after 4am but had to get up at 6am. at 9pm tonight i took a full 10mg on completly empty stomach, felt a little dizzy for about an hour but here i am at 1am still awake as ever and feeling desperate for a good nights rest i got up so i could ask if anyone has been through this because i thought the ambien would do the trick but i'm getting nothing but more sleep deprived. i'm going back to bed now to try again, wish me luck, i'm desperate

Don't think about yourself when you're trying to fall asleep. Think about a movie or TV show you saw, or a book you read. Or a beautiful sunset in Hawaii.

Oh. Switch from Ambien to Lunesta or Rozerem. Just call your pharmacy, and have the doctor switch the presciption. Good luck! :)
