Should tax payers be responsible for helping consulates pay to return cadavers home for burial?

9-4-06 Univision TV News announced that the Mexican consulate in CA recieves thousands of US dollars to aid families return the dead bodies of loved ones to their native homes who had a last wish to be buried in their home town in Mexico, legal immigrants or not. These families are entitled to partial or full funding of the cost of the trip to and from Mexico for the shipping of the deceased. What bothered me most was that the young 19 yr. old died of a drug overdose and his mother, an illegal alien wanted the consulate's help and recieved it at the cost of the American taxpayer. I was flabbergasted since I have worked in the funeral business for over 30 yrs. and no American was ever helped to be buried in their home town as a last wish. In my part of the country family and friends became responsible for those last wishes not the government or a consulate. This issue doesn't help immigration issues a bit. Contact ur congress people and react to them where it counts.

If the family could not afford him to buried in Mexico he should have buried in the US even if Potters Field.
Wake up Americans and realize what is happening and stop paying for everybody.

I think you (and maybe the TV station) might be confused. If the Mexican consulate provides funds for the return of deceased Mexican citizens, they are from the Mexican government or from private fund-raising. No foreign embassy or consulate anywhere receives any money from the host government.

There are a few private organizations, such as the Family Intervention Program at El Centro in Kansas City, that raise funds for this purpose, but the money is not from the US government, and it's only from US taxpayers if those taxpayers choose to contribute out of their own pockets. You are really mistaken. There are no funds made available to transport (the correct term, by the way, to use in "shipping" a body) a body from the US to a foreign country; those funds you mention that come from donations by private US citizens and Mexico. You jumped at the opportunity to further dump on Mexicans but you failed to get your facts straight.

Man, listen, they have enough problems on their hands, stop being an eternal hemorrhoid on their a s s e s! Leave them alone. They're doing the same thing your forefathers did when they got to this country... trying to find work to feed and raise their families. Given a fair chance, they are the same as any wave of immigrants that came here during the 1800s through 1900s, and are making contributions.
