Increased efforts to secure the U.S.-Mexico border against illegal aliens and drug smugglers have spurred an "unprecedented" rise in violence against U.S. Border Patrol agents, particularly in the San Diego area, where more than 100 assaults have taken place in the past two months."The deliberate, unmitigated violence against my agents is going to stop," San Diego Sector Chief Michael J. Fisher said in announcing the deployment of a special response team of agents authorized to use less-lethal munitions "to protect and defend themselves and other agents against life-threatening assaults being perpetrated by criminals in Mexico."The munitions include steel batons and pepper spray for close-quarter confrontations; compressed air guns known as the Pepper Ball Launching system, or the PLS, as an intermediate tool; and an innovative device called the FN-303, a long-range, semiautomatic launcher that fires projectiles from a 15-round drum magazine.The FN-303 is designed to incapacitate a target through blunt trauma without causing critical injuries. It can fire a projectile about 200 feet, compared with the 30-foot range of the PLS.Border Patrol agents were attacked 987 times along the U.S.-Mexico border during the 12-month fiscal period that ended Sept. 30 鈥?up 31 percent from 752 attacks a year earlier. It is the highest number of assaults since the agency began recording attacks in the late 1990s."To those who would argue that this violence is perpetrated by juvenile delinquents and that we should expect this as a 'cost of doing business,' I offer the following: Criminal organizations are hiring known criminals to cross into the United States illegally, create a diversion and lure our agents into an ambush," Mr. Fisher said.

This is crystal-clear proof that most Mexicans (especially the illegal alien types) have ZERO respect for the USA.

I think that our border guys should blow the dogsh*t out of anyone who attacks them in any way. And then leave 'em for the buzzards, as a warning.

I think the border patrol agents, and all of our military personal should be pardoned. I don't know about any one else but I think all of us who can should go sit on the border and help out. If we can't get politicians to do their job then the people need to take action. This is the people's country and we all have spoken for 20 years on this matter. Some of my retired family are talking about going there.

Thank our complicit government. The less we do the more emboldened they become. Just like radical islam under the Clinton regime. The more they did the less we did, finally culminating in 9/11. The extremists got the idea that they could operate without impunity because Clinton never did anything to retaliate.

Same thing with the illegals. What lessons have they learned? Smuggle drugs into the country and we will give you a get out of jail free card so you can smuggle more drugs, we will overlook the fact that you got caught smuggling a second time, we will incarcerate our own Border Patrol agents for doing their jobs, and we will allow you to sue us for 5 million dollars.

With that kind of message wouldn't you want to bait Border Patrol to retaliate so you could cash in?

Now we are going to spend millions on gadgets to hopefully discourage these attacks when a nickels worth of hot lead would solve the problem permanently.

i think they should be able to use lethal force and be able to chase these criminals back to Mexico and put a stop to it once and for all.

Besides, attacking border patrol officers is a job that most Americans don't want to do, so until you are ready to pick up a baseball bat and start hunting down police officers, you better just watch your self.

Well it would be hard but I think they should have military stlye weapons since the Cartels do also this is about money and power which in the third world is about violence.

I think that as these people are feeling more and more attacked so they are attacking back. The media and politicians are building up a some sort of war(proof enough can be seen by the anti- illegal immigration answers in yahoo answers) , and these people (who are obviously desperate) are more easily pushed into violence. This would not be happening if the current issue werent so "hot". While these actions are NOT condoned, they are also NOT unprecedented.
