Children's Residency Order?

I am looking for some serious legal advice in the UK.
My niece has lived with me since May 2002. Her mother has not contacted us since 2002 (she has a drug problem). Her father agrees to her living with me and visits regularly.
I do not qualify for legal aid so I am paying the court fees myself. It is 拢150 per appearance in the court.
In your opinion I was wondering what the outcome is likely to be and how long it is likely to take for residency to be granted if no-one is contesting it.

The thing which really makes these things drag on is the need for reports from the various social workers involved, including the guardian ad litem. Provided that all these are in agreement as to the best outcome for this little girl who has lived with you for the past five years, then there should be no reason for the court to stand in the way and all this should be sorted out after 2-3 months of adjourned hearings. http://www.mensadviceline.org.uk/Article...
